Course Description
Visual Art II picks up where Visual Art I leaves off, focusing more on technique and the exploration of unique forms of media. Students will develop a unique portfolio of work in their own personal style. Materials and techniques that will be explored in this class include: drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and more. Supplies
We will be using a wide variety of supplies in Visual Art II, This class requires a $35.00 supply fee which will help cover the cost of art supplies. This fee should be paid within the first two weeks of school. In addition to the $35 supply fee, students will be required to bring a number of other supplies needed for this class, these supplies are as follows:
1 Drawing Sketchbook (9”x12” ring binding preferred)5 Ultra-Fine Point Sharpie Markers (black, add. colors optional)
2 Fine Point Sharpie Markers (black, additional colors optional)
1 Pack Colored Pencils / 1 Pair of Scissors
1 Container for supplies (Pouch, storage box, etc.)
1 Large Portfolio to store artwork (Can bring back portfolio created in Art I)
These supplies are available at a number of stores such as Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, etc., and will be needed immediately and should be brought to class ASAP. Some additional supplies you may want to consider to enhance your Visual Art experience:

Art Show
As part of your grade for this class, there will be an art show at the end of the semester in which all art students are required to enter 3 different artworks. Students may choose any artwork they wish to enter into the art show, including artwork done outside of the art classroom, however it cannot be any artwork that has been entered into an art show previously. More information about this art show will be provided later in the semester.
Class Participation:
Ø All students are expected to engage in meaningful participation by working diligently on all art projects, sketchbook assignments, and written material assigned during the allotted class time. In addition, students are expected to participate in the following activities during class:
o Daily in-class comments/input/dialogue
o Small group activities
o Partner Assignments
o Being prepared for class
o Being on task
o Compliance and respect for class norms and procedures
Art Classroom Norms and Procedures
1. Be Steadfast – Respect Your Environment
Keeping a clean an orderly art room is the responsibility of every student. Be sure to clean up after yourself including your work area, supplies you have used, and the areas around the sink.
2. Be Gracious – Be Polite and Courteous to Others
Everyone should be treated with respect and courtesy at all times, this includes when the teacher or a fellow student is speaking, as well as respect for all students’ work area and artwork.
3. Be Conscientious – Always be Prepared for Class
Art class begins as soon as the bell rings, it is crucial that all students arrive in a timely fashion and be at their desks with the supplies they need when the bell rings to maximize learning.
Daily Routine – The typical day consists of the following routine:
Sketchbook Time – Begins when students enter the classroom and lasts 10-15 minutes. At the start of this time, there will be instructions posted on the board that all students are expected to follow as soon as they enter the classroom. Once the bell rings, all students are expected to be in their assigned seats and ready for instruction. During this time, all students will be working quietly on an assignment in their sketchbook until we are ready to move on.
Main Project Time – After sketchbook time, we will begin main project time. All students are expected to discontinue work on the sketchbook assignment and give the instructor their full and undivided attention. At the beginning of this time, directions will be given as far as the expectations for the remainder of the class time. Following instruction, students will have a few minutes to get necessary supplies and return to their seats to begin work on the main project.
Clean-Up Time – During the last 5-10 minutes prior to the bell, time will be allotted for students to clean up any messes, and put away any supplies. In order to prevent students being late to their next class, it is important that all work stops and students begin cleaning up right away.
Art Room Technology Policy
The use of a cell phone or other technology in the art classroom is restricted to class-related purposes and ONLY with prior permission. There may be times when exceptions will be made to this rule at the teacher’s discretion. All students are expected to adhere to the following guidelines during normal class time:
Ø All devices must remain put away out of sight in a backpack/purse/pocket at ALL times during normal class times unless permission is granted to use the device for an approved reason.
Ø Students may use headphones during normal class times only if permission is granted by the teacher. No headphones may be worn or used at the beginning of class.
Ø If permission is granted to utilize cell phone or other technology in class, the following activities are NOT permitted:
o Watching videos
o Using social media
o Text messaging
o Playing games
o Any other use that distracts student(s) from completing work appropriately.
If a technology violation occurs, the following policy will apply:
Ø 1st Offense: Student will receive a warning and phone will be held until end of class.
Ø All other Offenses: Device will be taken and submitted to office with a referral, and will be subject to the school-wide technology violation policy.
Grading Policy
Assignments in this course will be graded using the following grading scale per district policy:
A – 93-100
B – 85-92
C – 75-84
D – 70-74
F – Below 70
Coursework in this class is weighted on the following scale:
80% Major Projects/Tests
20% Sketchbook/Misc. Assignments/Participation/Homework
Incomplete Work/Missing Assignments:
Ø Any assignments not turned in on the day it is due will result in a “0” being entered into the gradebook which will impact student average.
Ø For sketchbook assignments, students will have 5 school days to complete and turn in these assignments in order to receive credit for the assignment. No penalty will incur for late work provided it is turned in within the 5-day grace period. Any sketchbook assignments not turned in within the 5-day period will result in a permanent “0” being entered for the assignment.
Ø For main project assignments, due to the nature of art projects and varying pace of students, there will be a soft deadline when assignments will be collected for grading after work on the assignment has been completed in class. However, there will be no penalty for projects turned in after this deadline, provided the project is completed by the end of the semester. Any project not turned by the end of the semester will result in a permanent “0” being entered for the assignment.
Ø If a student misses class on the day a test is administered, it will be expected that the student will complete the test on the day they return to school.

Ø RTI/Study Hall – Targeted academic support provided during the school day Monday-Thursday.
Ø We are available upon request for extra support before or after school as needed.
