We'll finish the week with a rousing Pep Rally on Friday afternoon at about 2:15 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the classrooms and teachers with the most SPIRIT! Parents are invited to attend the pep rally!
Monday, February 16 - 1st through 4th grade must wear their field trip shirts! The rest of the school should dress Retro! Wear something that reminds you of the 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's!
Tuesday, February 17 - Sports / Hero Day - Wear a jersey or shirt from your favorite sports team-professional or a local team you play on (not your St. Paul's uniform) or dress like your favorite hero!

Preschool News

How do we get from here to there? Transportation! We learned about transportation this week. We used “nnnn” as the sound of our airplane to practice the letter “N”.

Today (Thursday) will be our Valentine’s day. We plan to have lots of love, hearts and fun!

Kindergarten News

The noisy, nifty “N” joined our line up of letters this week. We put our noses to the grindstone and worked hard to improve our penmanship and letter sounds.

We started a unit on teeth this week. We learned the names of each different kind of tooth and why God shaped each one as he did.

Friday will be our Valentine’s party. We look forward to lots of fun.

1st & 2nd Grade News

Please remember to add our March 1 (10:15) singing date to your calendars.

On Thursday we reached 100 days of school! We thought about what 100 things look like. We also enjoyed a Valentine’s party this week. Next week is Spirit week. See this Gazette for the different dress up opportunities.

3rd & 4th Grade News

In Math, 3rd graders are reading 4 digit numbers with remainders in the quotient. 4th graders are adding and subtracting mixed numbers, using borrowing with uncommon denominators and then reducing. Lots of steps to remember, but the children are getting the hang of it and I think are enjoying the process.

In Social Studies we will be studying the early 1800’s when Abraham Lincoln’s family moved to Little Pigeon Creek, Indiana. The Lincoln’s were part of a great westward movement. 60 years later Sitting Bull led the Lakota to fight for their lands, to keep them from the white settlers, or pioneers that were coming west by the thousands. The story of George Custer and the Little Big Horn is an important and interesting part of our history.

5th & 6th Grade News

As you heard, the trip to the Watertown Public Library on Wednesday could not be made, so we have to call on parents to take their children to the library personally. Time is of the essence. We would like to have all children with all resources ready to go on Monday. I thank all parents who got things taken care of and their child was into the research phase on Thursday. Wow! The need for sources is important and we are on a four-source ratio. Of the four sources, two should be text (book, magazine, newspaper clipping, usually drawn from library sources) at least, one should be an encyclopedia at least, and one should be an Internet source at least. At least means one. There is no maximum for each, just that materials drawn and used must be recorded in a bibliography to be included with the report. In research phase, the student finds and records on note cards information, which will be arranged in an outline for the drafting of the 2-3 to 7 page report.

The due dates for the report are February 24, March 6 and 13. As you see, speed is important to gather the resources.

7th & 8th Grade News

The 7-8 graders had a Abraham Lincoln “birthday party” to kick off their next major assignment. All the 7-8 graders are now working on their Abraham Lincoln papers. This year is Lincoln’s 200th birthday so there is plenty of information out there to make excellent research papers. Please follow the directions and the schedule given for the work.
