A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE GENEROSITY OF MR. FRANCOIS FISERA OF COLUMBIA IN LENDING HIS UNMATCHABLE CULINARY GIFTS TO NUMEROUS MIDLANDS AND SOUTH CAROLINA CHARITABLE CAUSES AND HIS TIRELESS PROMOTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Francois Fisera, Chef and Owner of Columbia’s first culinary school, Fleur de Lys Home Culinary Institute, is an exemplar of service to the community, by using his culinary skills to benefit Midlands and South Carolina charitable causes, including the Palmetto Place Children’s Emergency Shelter, South Carolina Philharmonic League, Planned Parenthood of South Carolina, the Guardian Angels Doll Program, the South Carolina Heart Center, and the Babcock Center; and
Whereas, Mr. Fisera, a native of Melun, France, was educated in Paris and graduated in 1969 from the Hotel School in Paris and polished his culinary skills in his early career in France and the United Kingdom which prepared him for a life as owner and chef at noted restaurants in New York, as a restaurant reviewer and food editor in Florida, and in Monaco, as Director of Special Events for Bacardi Rum; and
Whereas, since opening Fleur De Lys in Columbia, Mr. Fisera has been a tireless promoter of South Carolina and the City of Columbia through his role as official spokesman for the Columbia Airport in its national advertising, and has promoted FrenchAmerican friendship in his many trips to France each year as well as in his classes at the Fleur De Lys Home Culinary Institute; and
Whereas, his contributions to American understanding of and appreciation for the French people and culture have brought him recognition by his native country as “Frenchman of the Month” by the French Consulate in Atlanta; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might honor a Columbian so dedicated to community service and international understanding. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation for the generosity of Mr. Francois Fisera of Columbia in lending his unmatchable culinary gifts to numerous Midlands and South Carolina charitable causes and his tireless promotion of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Fisera.
