Temporary 7.5T Environmental Weight Limit

Various Roads, Wivenhoe & Elmstead

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that from the date specified below, the Essex County Council has introduced a temporary 7.5T Environmental Weight Limit on the following roads as detailed under Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended,

Elmstead Road, Wivenhoe / from its junction with B1027 Brightlingsea Road to its junction with Colchester Road
Keelars Lane, Elmstead & Wivenhoe / from its junction with Tye Lane to its junction with Alresford Road
Tye Lane, Elmstead & Wivenhoe / from both of its junctions with B1027 Brightlingsea Road to its junction with Keelars Lane

And the entire length of the following roads in Wivenhoe

Alexandra Drive, Almond Close, Ash Grove, Broadfields, Caroline Close, Charles Court, Elizabeth Way, Field Way, Henrietta Close, Hereward Close, James Close, Lammas Way, Leys Road, Mede Way, Paddock Way, Richard Avenue, Robert Way, Vine Drive, Vine Farm Road, William Close

The restriction shall apply so as to prevent any goods vehicle having a maximum permissible gross weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes to proceed in the length of roads specified above unless the vehicle is being used

(a)  for the conveyance of goods or merchandise to or from any premises situated on or adjacent to the lengths of roads specified above;

(b) except upon the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform;

(c) for the purpose of agriculture in connection with land in or adjacent to the length of road specified above;

(d) for fire and rescue, police or ambulance purposes,

(e) is being used in connection with any of the following operations, namely;

(i)  in connection with any building or demolition operations in or adjacent to the length of road specified above;

(ii)  for the removal of any obstruction to traffic in or adjacent to the length of road specified in the schedule to this order;

(iii)  for the maintenance, improvement or reconstruction in or adjacent to the length of road specified in the schedule to this order;

(iv)  for the laying, erection, alteration or repair in or on land adjacent to the length of road specified above, of any sewer, or any main, pipe or apparatus for the supply of water, gas or electricity, or any telegraphic line;

(v)  in the service of a local authority or water authority in connection with work being carried out in or on land adjacent to the length of road specified above, in pursuance of statutory powers or duties;

Vehicles above 7.5T maximum gross weight can access Wivenhoe by following the signed diversion route

The temporary weight limit is scheduled to commence on 4th January 2016 and will continue in force under a temporary traffic regulation order. The restriction is required for the safety of the public and to assist the bus service in Wivenhoe whilst Colchester Road Wivenhoe is closed for the construction of the cycleway.
