CC10: Draw, Construct & Describe Geometrical Figures

Directions: Show your work and explain your answer when needed.

DOK 1 – Recall & Reproduction

1) Joey made a scale model of a great white shark for science class. He used a scale of 2 in. = 15 ft. If Joey’s model shark had a length of 1.5 inches, what is the actual length of the great white shark?

2) Draw and describe the 2-dimensional figure that would result from slicing each 3-dimensional figure.

a) / A cross section parallel to the base. / b) / A cross-section perpendicular to the base.

3) Use angle relationships to find each missing angle.

mABC = ______

2x+24 x

mCBD = ______52º

mCBE = ______

DOK 2 – Routine

4) Draw with . Do these conditions produce a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle? Explain why.

5) Determine if each of the following statements is always true, sometimes true, or never true. Then provide an explanation and/or picture to prove your answer.

Always True / Sometimes True / Never True / Explanation/Picture
a) / Two adjacent angles are complementary.
b) / If two angles are supplementary, then both are obtuse angles.
c) / Two vertical angles are congruent.

DOK 3 – Non-Routine

6) Using a ruler and the attached paper, create a scale drawing of a city center. Use the information below to create the scale drawing.

§  The scale for your drawing is 1 inch = 2 miles.

§  Use dots to represent each location on your map (be sure to also label each location)

§  Starting from City Hall, draw two streets moving away from City Hall at a 90° angle.

§  Along one street, place the Post Office two miles away from City Hall, and on the same street, place the Police Station three miles away from City Hall.

§  Along the other street, place the Fire Station 1 ½ miles from City Hall, the Elementary School 2 ½ miles from City Hall, and the Middle School 3 miles from City Hall.

§  Draw a street connecting the Post Office to the Fire Station.

§  Draw a street connecting the Police Station to the Middle School.

Your City Center

Use your scale drawing to answer the following questions.

a)  What is the approximate direct distance, in miles, between the Post Office and the Fire Station?

b)  Use your protractor to measure the angle between City Hall, the Police Station, and the Middle School. The Police Station is the vertex of the angle.

c)  Use your protractor to measure the angle between City Hall, the Fire Station, and the Post Office. The Fire Station is the vertex of the angle.
