In September 2013 Winchester Racquets and Fitness will be offering the opportunity for an enthusiastic and energetic sports oriented young person to be part of the Apprenticeship Programme designed for young people who wish to pursue a full time professional career in tennis coaching. The leisure industry is a sector in the UK with continued growth; furthermore Tennis is a sport which has unique and exciting career development opportunities.

This 2 year programme is delivered through a government accredited apprentice scheme and is supported by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) – the National Governing Body for British Tennis.

This is an excellent opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’. During the programme the apprentice coach will have the opportunity to embark on a Level 2 Coaching Apprenticeship and on completion of the initial programme they may have a further opportunity to progress to a Level 3 qualification.

This is an excellent opportunity for people aged between 16 and 24 to gain employment whilst training for nationally recognised qualification.

The Programme will introduce candidates to a variety of skills, including tennis coaching, organising competitions, organising social events, producing marketing material, attending committee meetings and other areas of coaching and developing a coaching programme. The candidates will also experience work in other areas of the club gaining knowledge and skills in wider sports club operations and administration. All of these areas of responsibility will be supported through on the job training and one to one assessments with a qualified assessor.

The successful candidate will already have:

·  A 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Tennis – Level 1 Coaching Assistant Qualification

·  Good communication skills, including an excellent telephone manner with a natural ability to communicate with people at all levels.

·  Good IT skills and previous experience of co-ordinating or organising activities

·  Ability to use their initiative and be committed to achieve within agreed work deadlines.

There are lots of benefits to doing an Apprenticeship one of which is that you will be earning a salary (circa £5000) while you learn on a programme that has been designed specifically around your personal development. As an apprentice you would be employed for 30 hours per week. Working hours will include evening and weekend work.
