Geometry Syllabus 2015-2016 School Year

Welcome to Mr. Dudnick’s Geometry Class. This class will be unlike any math class you have taken before. The goal is not to solve problems, but to explain WHY and HOW you arrived at your answer. Geometry begins with undefined terms and postulates, then theorems and formulas are introduced. Each lesson builds upon the previous lesson in a spiraling fashion, so attendance is very important for a successful year.

MATERIALS TO BRING EACH DAY

- Large spiral bound notebook (the bigger the better as you will use notes from September in June).

-Pencil (you will make mistakes and you will need to erase!)

- Issued workbook (every few days, the homework will be assigned in the workbook).

WHAT TO EXPECT EACH DAY

The normal class period will begin with a warm-up activity. While students are working on this activity, I will be checking the previous night’s homework (homework will be assigned daily). We will then go over any questions from the homework and begin the day’s lesson. Notes will be taken in Cornell format, so that students can review and talk about their notes during class. Students will be in pairs during the class period talking out the problems and explaining their reasoning using academic vocabulary. Homework will be posted daily on the Pacifica Mariners Website, along with being written on the blackboard in the classroom. I will post tutorial videos to aide students in completing their assignments on the website. I accept late work, as it is important that students spend time on their homework to develop better understanding of the concepts.
