FOLLOW UP ON VESTRY RETREAT

  • Building and Grounds – Gable House

Dan Cain reported that he had spoken with two structural engineering companies. One company, Criterium Caruso Engineering, had given a quote of $2,000. This report would have the company come and look at the Gable House and prepare a report for the vestry. The other company, Southern A&E, stated that they would look over the Gable House and give us an oral report and would not charge us. However, if a written report was needed there would be a fee. Dan stated that A&E would be here by the end of the week to look at the Gable House.

  • Property rentals

Almon House - Julie Foreman stated that she had spoken to Charlie Almon about the property on Cedar Street. She reported that the property was not zoned for a business and that Charlie didn’t think he could rent the property to us unless it was re-zoned.

Law offices on Newnan Street property – Julie Foreman and Hazel Glover met with the Rhett Harmon of Duffey Real Estate and looked over the building. Mr. Harmon stated that the property had been reduced and the seller might be interested in renting for $1,200 a month. Hazel and Julie stated that the building had a lot of the same problems as the Gable House, ie. Need to be re-wired, cracks in walls, and not storage space.

Liquor storeproperty – Guyton Cochran

Reported that the property was in foreclosure and the price was now $450,000. Guyton stated that he had also questioned Dermo Realty about the blue house on the corner and two other properties on Newnan Road. Discussion followed.

The vestry will send all information to the Capital Acquisition commission for further review.

  • Church van – Lisanne Denmon

Had spoken with St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Marietta about their van procedures and provided members with a copy. Richard Smith brought up concerns about insuring a van. Julie Foreman will get a copy of current insurance policy and speak with agent about coverage.

  • Crosswalk across Newnan Street – Bill Parrish

Reported that per Mayor Garner it would be no problem to getacrosswalk painted.

  • Handicapped handrail for church bathrooms – Elisabeth Cogginsreported via email

that for a 36" handrail and the anchors the cost would be approximately $75 per restroom. If a small handrail was placed in front of the toilet in the back two restrooms, it will be about $30 more per handrail. The front restroom would be a little more difficult to install because of the tile. Pete Croft moved that all three bathrooms be made handicapped accessible. Vestry approved the motion.

  • Floor re-finishing – John Muffley

Reported that he had received a quote from two companies but he had a question regarding one of the quotes and would re-check it before reporting.

Other business

Outreach – Richard Smith proudly announced that Outreach Director Catherine Gordon has received the Significant and Meritorious Service to Mankind award from the SERTOMA club of Carrollton. He stated that not only had she won at the local level but also the district and regional level.

Music – Organ improvements

Sr. Warden Tony McGaughey reported that enhancements had been made to the church organ at a cost of $3,500. He further stated that the work had been paid for by Dr. Coe in honor of Kathy. The Sr. Warden asked the vestry to consider reimbursing Dr. Coe for the improvements as a way of honoring both Bob and Kathy for their long years of service. The vestry asked that the finance commission look into it.

Liz Schellingerhoudt contract

The Very Rev. Hazel Glover reported that the Rev. Schellingerhoudt had signed her contract.

Fish Fry – Stephanie Turner

A fish fry will be held at the Ag Center on May 23 at 5:00 p.m.
