Course Description: The United States Army's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, or JROTC, is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. Its focus is reflected in its mission statement, "To motivate young people to be better citizens." It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school, and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, community, and nation. JROTC program is not set up to recruit and does not request orexpect a military commitment of any kind. Special emphasis is placed on the appreciation of the ethical values which underlie good citizenship, to include honesty and respect for authority, development of leadership potential, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, plus appreciation of good physical fitness.

Course Expectations/Course Materials: Books are maintained in JROTC classroom. Students are expected to bring writing paper and writing instrument (pencil/pen) to class. Students are also expected to bring exercise clothing (shorts, t-shirts, and exercise shoes) on physical training days. Students are required to wear the JROTC uniform (issued free of charge)once a week or as directed by instructors.

Cadets will also be graded based on their attitude and effort. Cadets are encouraged to perform well academically in all classes, participate during class and after school activities, develop and display leadership abilities, and wear the uniform in accordance with instruction and policies. Remember that participation is the key to success, get involved, and don’t be afraid to take the challenge!
