Aim
- Deliver private rented sector (PRS) training courses to range of learners across England. This includes delivering the accredited Crisis Renting Ready pre-tenancy training to homeless and vulnerable adults; the National Practitioners Support Service Gold Standard training for local authority housing staff on how to set up PRS access services; and PRS training for front line workers in hostels and other services for homeless people.
Dimension
- No formal budget management, but will be required to control spending in certain key areas.
- Management of volunteers / peer mentors where required.
- Courses may be co-delivered with other Crisis staff
Circumstances
- 35 hours per week
- A significant degree of flexibility is required in delivering the service. Some evening and weekend work will be required and time of in lieu will be given in accordance with Crisis TOIL policy, where outside of agreed working pattern
- Based in London, with services delivered in partners’ facilities or community venues across England but mainly within London and the South East
- A satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for this role. The post holder may be working with young people aged 16 and 17 and so the DBS check will establish the successful applicant’s suitability to work with children as well as vulnerable adults

Principle Accountabilities
- Deliver Renting Ready pre-tenancy training for homeless and vulnerably housed people in London and in other areas of the country, as necessary
- Deliver training to Local Authorities on using the Private Rented Sector to prevent homelessness alongside a member of the housing team for local authority housing staff
- Deliver hostel training on using the Private Rented Sector to prevent homelessness for front line staff across the country, where there is demand
- Teach and support learning in accordance with best practice for the client group
- Prepare and use suitable and good quality learning materials
- Participate in the development of schemes of work and lesson plans in accordance with standard practice
- Establish and maintain standards of conduct with and for the learners
- Adhere to organisational policies when dealing with aggressive or challenging behaviour
- Participate in relevant meetings and professional development activities
- Carry outany related administration, where required, as well as class preparation and assessment,
- Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are identified and reported in line with Crisis’ procedures
- For the Renting Ready Course specifically:
- Plan, reflect and review each learner’s programme on a regular basis (other training provided will not require ongoing work with learners).
- Work with the Progression, Education and Housing teams to ensure member progression into voluntary or employment opportunities as appropriate
- Prepare Schemes of Work, Individual learning Plans and session/lesson plans in accordance with standard practice and accreditation processes
- Maintain learner records, such as registers and learner portfolios in order to adhere to Crisis monitoring and external accreditation standards.
- Keep appropriate assessment records for both accredited and non-accredited courses
- Liaise with colleagues, moderators and representatives of awarding bodies to assist learners support and progression
General Accountabilities
- Actively encourage and support member involvement within Crisis
- Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people.
- Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care to both themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Carry out duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven ability to deliver high quality interactive learning programmes
- Extensive demonstrable knowledge of the private renting sector and the particular issues faced by homeless or vulnerable people in accessing private rented accommodation.
- To hold or be willing to work towards an appropriate adult teaching qualification e.g. L3 Award in Education and Training (PTLLS), or L4 Certificate in Education and Training (DTLLS), or equivalent.
- Experience of engaging vulnerable or disadvantaged learners in training programmes
- Experience of delivering training on technical matters to professionals, or other relevant experience
- Experience of developing teaching and learning materials
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) including experience of presenting clear and concise information in an appropriate format for a range of audiences
- Proven organisational skills including an ability to prioritise, be self-motivated and have good time-management skills
- Ability to keep accurate and up to date records, sharing information as and when appropriate
- Ability to manage volunteers to assist with teaching/training
- Willingness to travel across England on a regular basis to deliver training
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with safeguarding procedures
