Subject:Title I Summer Programs

We are pleased to provide you with details on the 2011 Title I Summer Camp Programs. Like last year, we will implement two summer camp programs; the P.E.A.C.E. Science Camp and the Technology Camp. These exciting programs will give our neediest students the opportunity to study ecosystems and close the digital divide through hands-on experiences and classroom activities in a camp-like environment. Listed below is information relevant to each camp.

P.E.A.C.E. Science Camp

WHO / WHEN / WHERE / LUNCH
25 students (plus five alternates*) from each Title I school who meet the following criteria:
  • are eligible for F/R lunch
  • can attend on the dates selected for your school
  • have transportation to/from your school
  • are rising 4th and 5th graders (Elementary), rising 8th graders (Middle), rising 10th graders (High)
*Schools are asked to identify 5 alternate students in case others drop out. / Each school will attend for one four-day week. (No Fridays)
June 6th– 9th
LES, RBCES, CHES, CAES, AHS, BPMS
June 13th– 16th
WZES, CWTES, NWES, MLES, SES, FHES
June 20th – 23rd
PES, WES, GES, SRES, HES, GHES
June 27th - 30th
SHES, MGES, AES, RES, MPLES, JMMES
Pick up and drop off timeswill vary by school. See attachment for specific details. / Students will spend time at the Energy Marine Center, Starkey Environmental Education Center, Crystal Springs Preserve, and the Florida Aquarium
-Busses will pick up and drop off from each ESY school location
and from PLACE locations for each school.
-There is no home to school transportation associated with this camp due to early start times. / Lunch will be provided to all participating students, as they are all F/R lunch eligible.

TECHNOLOGY CAMP

WHO / WHEN / WHERE / LUNCH
30 students from each Title I school who meet the following criteria:
-are eligible for F/R lunch
-can attend on the dates offered
-Rising 4th and 5th graders (Elementary)
-Rising 8th graders (Middle)
-Rising 10th graders
(High) / The Tech Camp schedule for all schools/students mirrors the regular ESY schedule, i.e. 10 days, June 15th – June 30th, no Fridays.

Students who attend Tech Camp will be allowed to ride the regular ESY bus / No lunch is provided as TECH Camp follows regular ESY timelines

We ask that schools submit the following by May 2nd:

  • The names of selected students for each camp
  • Signed parent lettersfor each student selected (Sample parent letters FOR EACH CAMP are attached for this purpose.

Please note that CIS will be sending an additional letter to all parents of selected students with specialized information pertaining to thecamps.
