Digital Content and Photography Intern (Paid)

JOB PURPOSE:

Plymouth College is looking to appoint a paid intern to assist in the capturing and reporting of the school’s activities. This internship will give the intern valuable, real-world experience in creating outreach and marketing strategies for an organisation. The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

General Description:

  1. Assist in the capturing and reportingof the school’s activities.
  2. Upload and management of the schools Digital Asset Management System
  3. To assist in cataloguing the school’s digital assets
  4. To provide the PR and Digital Marketing Executive with the digital assets required to promote the school effectively.
  5. To write a report of the activity and send in a timely way to the Digital Marketing and PR Executive.

Representative Duties:

  1. Media Relations – Provide the PR and Marketing Executive with the necessary assets to write stories for the Press and the schools communication networks.
  2. Digital Marketing - Delivery of a range of digital marketing content for Social media management including: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+ and Pinterest. Supporting the Marketing Communications team in the development and delivery of digital marketing campaigns and activities.
  3. Advertising – Capture the necessary imagery and stories for advertising
  4. Website – providing updated content for the website as required.
  5. Events – Provide some logistical support as well as acquiring imagery from the event.
  6. Photography – responsible for taking photographs of all aspects of school life for publications, presentations, the website and to support news stories.
  7. Publications – creating digital content specific to the type of content.
  8. Year Book – assistant editor of the annual Year Book, a 200+ page hard-backed publication depicting the whole school year. Ensuring that all the content is available and catalogued in an efficient manner.
  9. Internal Communications – keep staff informed and engaged via group and one-to-one briefings, meetings and email about the photography schedule.
  10. Staff Support – support and advise colleagues on communications and marketing issues including media briefings, brand guidance and proof reading.

Knowledge of:

  1. A range of computer systems including Microsoft Office and Photoshop,
  2. Website content management systems.
  3. Photoshop
  4. Digital photography both still and video
  5. Digital editing software for both video and stills.
  6. School policies and procedures.

Ability to:

  1. Research and write concise and informative copy.
  2. Take excellent quality pictures
  3. Be able to confidently interview staff, coaches, students and visitors.

Experience and Education:

  1. Some qualifications in photography would be useful or a portfolio of work.
  2. Good GCSE level English

Environment:

  1. Shared office environment.
  2. Frequent off site/outdoor environment.

Physical Abilities:

  1. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
  2. Seeing to assess visual work.
  3. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  4. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other equipment.
  5. Kneeling, bending at the waist and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally in the course of moving supplies and setting up events.
  6. Lifting heavy objects up to 10 kilos.

Well suited candidates should have an interest in social media, communications, digital photography, video be sociable and work well with others.

Plymouth College is an independent school, educating children from 3 up to 18. Every day there are numerous clubs, sports matches, activities as well as an unrivalled breadth of education, we need to capture these activities to promote the school. The Digital Content and Photography intern will report to the PR and Communications Executive.

The Digital Content and Photography Intern will also be supplied with SLR camera, Video Camera and Laptop.

Being able to drive would be helpful.

Safeguarding and welfare of children

The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact, will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the role-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer or the Headmaster.

Hours of work

The role is term time only, with a minimum of 35 weeks. The working hours will be variable and may involve work in the evenings recording matches and school concerts.

Salary

The role will attract NMW, school meals and expenses where necessary.

  • Subject to a satisfactory 1-month probationary period
  • A satisfactory enhanced DBS check and if appropriate, a check of the Barred List maintained by the DBS.
  • Verification of professional qualifications, where appropriate
  • If you have worked or been resident overseas, such checks and confirmations as we may consider appropriate so that any relevant events that occurred outside the UK can be considered
  • Receipt of a satisfactory Medical Declaration Form.
