CURRENT JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

BUILDING & BRIDGES (B&B) MECHANIC:

Must have a high school diploma or GED; Must have a valid driver’s license; Responsible for constructing repairs and maintaining bridges, buildings and other structures; Must have a strong background in masonry, carpentry, and steel work; Must be able to climb and work on various structures; Must have basic knowledge on various hand and power tools. Applicants interested in this position must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT’S B&B Mechanic Aptitude Test.

BUS MAINTENANCE/SERVICEPERSON:(This is not a Bus Cleaner position)

Valid Driver’s License for last 3 yrs. (no more than 5-points); OR VALID NY Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and must have mechanical experience. Must be able to work any shift.The State of New Jersey has a residency requirement. NJ TRANSIT will support an exemption request for critical need for CDL holders for Serviceperson positions at Oradell, Meadowlands, and Fairview Garages.Approval from the Residency Committee is required.

BUS OPERATOR:

Valid Driver’s License for last 3 yrs.; No more than 5 points on driver’s license candidates who currently possess a CDL-B with Passenger endorsement and airbrakes desired. Applicants interested in this position must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT’s Bus Operator Aptitude Test. The State of New Jersey has a residency requirement. NJ TRANSIT will support an exemption request for critical need for CDL holders for Bus Operators positions at Oradell, Meadowlands, and Fairview Garages.Approval from the Residency Committee is required.

ELECTRICIAN:

Must have a high school diploma or GED; 3-5 years of construction experience in the installation, repair and troubleshooting of commercial or industrial electrical wiring; must be able to work ALL shifts, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays; ability to use testing equipment, ability to read schematics & blueprints; use welding & soldering equipment, knowledge of HVAC support systems. Applicants interested in this position must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT’s Electrical Aptitude Test.

FOREMAN II:

Northern Region -- 5 yrs. of applied experience in bus maintenance or other applied experience in heavy diesel vehicle maintenance.

HUMAN RESOURCES BUSINESS PARTNER:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Labor Relations, and three (3) or more years of experience as a human resources generalist, including recruitment, handling employee relations issues, and compensation (including position evaluation and salary structure development).Must have exceptional interpersonal, communication and writing skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft software suite, i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. One year of closely related work experience can be substituted for each year of education required. An advanced degree in a related area (Business Administration, Human Resources, Labor Relations, Law or other related area) may substitute for two (2) years of experience.

MACHINIST:

Must have a high school diploma or GED; Responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining and repairing rail cars and locomotives. Additional duties include: diagnosing and troubleshooting problems associated with facility maintenance as well as the operation and maintenance of shop machinery. To qualify, you must have a basic understanding of mathematics, mechanics, and computers, as well as be familiar with safe working practices. Knowledge of shop machinery, test equipment, and machinist tools and gauges is necessary. Applicants interested in this position must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT’s Machinist Aptitude Test.

Material Purchasing Specialist:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area from a US Department of Education accredited college or university, and two (2) years of applied experience in MRO (Maintenance/Repair/Operations) and materials management such as inventory, purchasing, shipping/receiving, and accounts payable. Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word is required. Proficiency in manipulating data required to generate various inventory reports required. Familiarity with automated inventory/purchasing system required. Technical background in bus and parts desired. One year of closely related work experience can be substituted for each year of education required.

MECHANIC B – SUBSTATION:

Must have a high school diploma or GED; Must have proof of completion from a 4 year Apprenticeship program; Responsible for installing and maintaining remote control equipment, including switchboard instruments and wiring thereof at substation and remote control points; Responsible for inspecting, repairing and maintaining breaker houses, oil switches, transformers, network protectors and all other appurtenances necessary in electric traction substation department. Applicants interested in this position must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT’S Electrical Aptitude Test.

PAYROLL SYSTEMS ADMINSTRATOR:

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Computer Science, Business Administration or related area, from a US Department of Education accredited college or university, and one year of applied experience with financial systems such as creating financial reports. Strong PC skills and work experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, Access and Outlook) required. Knowledge and experience with automated payroll systems desired. Working knowledge and experience with SQL and relational databases (MS Access and/or Oracle) desired. Familiarity with KRONOS 4500 Series clocks, TCP/IP network protocol, Oracle Discoverer and VBA desired. Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to write user documentation required. One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.

PLUMBERS/TINSMITHS:

Must have a high school diploma or GED; Must have a valid driver’s license; Must be qualified to layout all facets of steel and metal working technique and lead in the performance of the work involved in tinning; Responsible for constructing, repairing and maintaining plumbing and piping. Applicants interested in this position must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT’S Pipefitter Aptitude Test.

POLICE COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER:

High School Diploma/GED; one (1) year experience in an Emergency field position

i.e., 911/EMT.

Project Manager, Parking Management & Development:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related area from an accredited university or college and five (5) years of experience performing financial and/or economic analyses to include at least one (1) year of real estate project management. Superior oral and written communications skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Applied experience with customer service issues, as well as administration of leases, property transactions, contracts and operating agreements desired. One year of closely related work experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
