Course Info:Celebrating its 50th year, Packanack Golf Club is a private member-owned golf

club located next to scenic Packanack Lake, approximately 25 miles from New York City. Founded in 1963, its facilities include a 9-hole Geoffrey Cornish designed golf course, driving range, two practice putting greens and practice bunkers.

A 6,157 yard, par 72 golf course with bent/poa greens, tees and fairways built on 50 acres. The club is currently working on the execution of a newly developed Master Plan.

Duties:

  • Maintain the appearance and safety of the course by diagnosing and treating agronomic issues; supervising irrigation scheduling and repairs; maintaining a wide variety of turf grasses in extreme climatic conditions; managing course preparations for tournament and daily play; integrating environmental programs specializing in IPM (Integrated Pest Management); coordinating, scheduling and supervising capital improvement projects
  • Manage maintenance operations involved in providing maintenance of greens, fairways, tees, bunkers, bodies of water, roughs, maintenance shop, and clubhouse; responsibility for the selection, training, assignment and assessment of maintenance staff, providing corrective action as needed; holding safety meetings to ensure the highest level of safety for all maintenance staff
  • Provide effective administration by developing and executing annual maintenance plan and budget for the course; tracking maintenance expenses including payroll, supplies, fertilizer, chemicals, etc.; maintaining maintenance records and developing required maintenance reports; ordering parts, supplies and equipment as needed

Key Selection Process Criteria:

  • The successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices, with sound decision-making capabilities.
  • The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong value system combined with high energy levels and enthusiastic work ethic.
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated interpersonal skills, communication and diplomacy skills.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or a very strong First Assistant.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and management
  • Solid time management, organization and prioritization skills
  • Innovative thinker with the ability to adapt
  • Ability to effectively build a team environment and provide motivation
  • Certified New Jersey pesticide license
  • GCSAA membership preferred
