Clinical Counselor (Licensed Psychologist)

Student Services Professional –Academic Related II, 12 month

Position Summary

Clinical Counselors provide the full range of individual and group psychological services to students, faculty and staff, who represent a wide range of multicultural backgrounds, presenting complex psychosocial, personal and family issues.

Essential job functions

Primary responsibilities include:

·  Intake and assessment

·  Provision of individual, group, marital and couples counseling (using time-limited treatment models)

·  Outreach

·  Referrals

·  Crisis intervention

·  Consultation

Counselors effectively represent the Center as a member of the University faculty, and perform additional professional services as individual skills, interests and agency needs indicate.

Skill requirements

·  Experience and clinical effectiveness in multicultural counseling approaches with ethnically and culturally diverse clients and communities

·  Clinical skills and experience in time-limited, short term treatment approaches, with a broad range of complex personal and interpersonal issues

·  Ability to establish effective working collaborations between individuals and groups representing different cultures, interest groups and/or departments

·  Ability to provide effective consultation regarding a variety of psychological issues

·  Strong clinical assessment skills

·  Crisis/suicide intervention experience and critical incident debriefing capabilities

·  Extensive experience making discerning judgments regarding complex legal and ethical issues

Nature and scope of decision

Clinical Counselor must provide:

·  Clinical effectiveness in multicultural counseling approaches with ethnically and culturally diverse clients and communities

·  Establish effective working collaborations between individuals and groups representing different cultures, interest groups and/or departments

·  Discerning judgments regarding complex legal and ethical issues

Contacts on and off campus

Clinical Counselor will participate in the life of the campus as a member of the faculty, and meet criteria (by such means as participation in professional associations, publications, research, creative works and continuing education), and university and community services.

Minimum qualifications required to performs all essential functions

Required qualifications:

Applicant must currently posses a doctorate in counseling, psychology or a specific related field. A licensure issued by the Board of Psychology is required. If the licensure is out of state, must comply with Board of Psychology regulations for obtaining licensure in order to practice in California. In addition, candidate must have experience and clinical effectiveness in multicultural counseling approaches with ethnically and culturally diverse client and communities; clinical skills and experience in time-limited, short term approaches, with a broad range of complex personal and interpersonal issues; ability to establish effective working collaborations between individuals and groups representing different cultures, interest groups and/or departments; ability to provide effective consultation regarding a variety of psychological incident debriefing capabilities; extensive experience making discerning judgments regarding complex legal and ethical issues. Candidate must be able and willing to participate in the life of the campus as a member of the faculty, and meet criteria (by such means as participation in professional associations, publications, research, creative works and continuing education), and university and community service.

Preferred qualifications:

Two years of clinical experience post licensure. Post graduate clinical experience on a college campus; experience in multicultural, urban setting; knowledge and experience working with clinical issues common on college settings, e.g. substance abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, conflict resolution, individual and group conflict resolution, trauma debriefing. Experience and skills in multi-cultural training and supervision of graduate and post-doctorate interns seeking licensure in psychology; experience working with men’s issues especially work with men of color and the LGBTQ community; experience working with immigrant and international student populations. Proficiency in a second language is preferred but not required.
