One change in the gaming industry involves slot machines. I went in the Golden Gate Casino (Located at 1 Fremont Street , the Golden Gate opened in 1906 under the name Hotel Nevada ( Seeing slot machines almost 100 years old was quite interesting, "those early machines were based on the rules and card values of poker, with symbols identical to numbers and symbols on cards. The design was entirely mechanical, no electricity or computer chips involved, and the games were made up of five reels each of which contained a further ten card symbols." ( Over time the machines have become electronic and eventually the handle was not being utilized or in most cases even installed. They now involve video and music and slot players are looking to be entertained as well as gambling. They have also stopped using coins for the winnings and players now get tickets that they have to take to the cashier to redeem.

As someone who lives in Las Vegas, I have a great opportunity to keep an eye on developments in the gaming community. The first thing I have noticed is that most casinos are not stand alone (meaning they are not separated from a hotel). The second thing I've noticed is how truly huge gaming is atall economic levels. If you are the ultra rich high roller, there are places like Wynn ( and Mandarian Oriental ( that will cater to your every wish. But there are other places like Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall ( which is attached to a KOA campground and caters to a more "blue collar" clientèle.I have also noticed that casinos do not at all discriminate. In fact, they love to takeeveryonesmoney, regardless of what they look like or how much money they have. One thing I have heard locals say when they see tourists is "There's another deposit in our Vegas ATM."
