Introduction

Wirework is a fun jewelry making technique. You can make loops, spirals, wrap, bend the wire and create stunning pieces of wire jewelry.

Here is a piece of jewelry where you'll learn all these techniques and simply create an earring frame. You can make variations by using the same technique over and over again.

The tutorial is catered for beginners or anyone who loves to learn this basic weave. It has in-depth instructions and ultra-clear, close-up photos at each step. Additionally, you can ask me question you have on the tutorial. No more getting stuck and frustrated on a confusing or just plain inaccurate pattern.

Materials and tools needed:

Materials Needed
20ga wire

10 head pins

2 ear wires

3mm or 4mm round beads

Tools Needed
Wire cutter
Round nose pliers

Ruler

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1:
Cut 10 inches 20ga wire. Using your round nose pliers grip the center of the wire and make a loop. After making a loop position the ends like an inverted "V" shape.

Step 2:
Holding the wire with the loop on top, with your round pliers bend the left in clockwise direction. Again, after making a loop position the wire like an inverted "V" shape.

You will have 2 loops side by side.

Step 3:
Repeat step 2 and make 1 more loop. At the end of the last loop the wire should now be straight downward.

Do the same for the other side. Rotate the earring frame and you will have this.

Step 5:
Measure 0.5cm from the last loop and bend the wire, making a triangle shape with 1 extended wire straight up. With the extended wire measure 0.5cm then cut the excess wire.

Step 6:
Make a loop with the 0.5cm from the extended wire. Then bend the other wire 90 degrees.

Step 7:
Neatly, wrap the bent wire just below the loop.

Step 9:
Attach onto the earring frame's loops. You're done!

About The Author

I consider myself a late bloomer when it comes to crafting. I’m a self-taught jewelry maker. Jewelry making wasn’t really a hobby of mine, but unforeseen events lead me to learn jewellery making. My family put up a craft store where we sell cross stitch, beads and all sorts of crafting materials. I fell in love with the beads and tried to create accessories only for myself. Clients liked the pieces and I started customizing handmade jewelleries. The craft store was a success for 6 years, but like any other small businesses we had to close it down and I was confined to staying at home. While at home I had all the time using the internet and now working as a Virtual Assistant, where I blog, teach jewelry making and given the privilege to design handmade jewelleries.
