Call to Worship: “Build Your Kingdom Here”

Come set Your rule and reign in our hearts again

Increase in us we pray, unveil why we're made

Come set our hearts ablaze with hope like wildfire in our very souls,

Holy Spirit come invade us now--- We are Your church, we need Your pow'r in us

We seek Your kingdom first, we hunger and we thirst

Refuse to waste our lives for You're our joy and prize

To see the captives' hearts released, the hurt, the sick, the poor at peace

We lay down our lives for heaven's cause--- We are Your church, we pray revive this earth

Build Your kingdom here, let the darkness fear. Show Your mighty hand, heal our streets and land

Set Your church on fire, win this nation back. Change the atmosphere, build Your kingdom here we pray

Unleash Your kingdom's pow'r, reaching the near and far

No force of hell can stop, Your beauty changing hearts

You made us for much more than this, awake the kingdom seed in us

Fill us with the strength and love of Christ--- We are Your church, we are the hope on earth

Opening Song: “Everlasting God”

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord

Our God, You reign forever! Our hope, our strong Deliv'rer

You are the everlasting God, the everlasting God, You do not faint, You won't grow weary
You're the defender of the weak, You comfort those in need, You lift us up on wings like eagles

Scripture Lessons

The Bible is at the heart of our worship, because in it we read and understand the very words of God. Every word in the Bible has come from God and is vitally important so that we can know His heart and His truth. Each week during our service, we read a section of the Old Testament, a Psalm, a section from the New Testament, and a reading from the Gospels. If you do not have your own Bible, we would like to give you one as a free gift – please speak to a clergy member or an usher.

Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 40:21-31

21Haven’t you heard? Don’t you understand? Are you deaf to the words of God—the words he gave before the world began? Are you so ignorant? 22God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. 23He judges the great people of the world and brings them all to nothing. 24They hardly get started, barely taking root, when he blows on them and they wither. The wind carries them off like chaff. 25“To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” asks the Holy One. 26Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. 27O Jacob, how can you say theLorddoes not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? 28Have you never heard?Have you never understood? TheLordis the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. 29He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.30Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.31But those who trust in theLordwill find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. The Word of the Lord.

Psalm: 147:1-11

1Praise theLord! How good to sing praises to our God!How delightful and how fitting!
2TheLordis rebuilding Jerusalemand bringing the exiles back to Israel.
3He heals the brokenheartedand bandages their wounds.
4He counts the starsand calls them all by name.
5How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!
6TheLordsupports the humble, but he brings the wicked down into the dust.

7Sing out your thanks to theLord;sing praises to our God with a harp.
8He covers the heavens with clouds, provides rain for the earth,
and makes the grass grow in mountain pastures.
9He gives food to the wild animalsand feeds the young ravens when they cry.
10He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horseor in human might.
11No, theLord’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Epistle Lesson:1 Corinthians 9:16-23

16Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News! 17If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust.18What then is my pay? It is the opportunity to preach the Good News without charging anyone. That’s why I never demand my rights when I preach the Good News.19Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ.20When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law.21When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law,I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.22When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.23I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. The Word of the Lord.

Gospel Hymn: “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”

His Word shall not fail you He promised, believe Him and all will be well

Then go to a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace

Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Mark.

PeopleGlory to you, Lord Christ.

Gospel: Mark 1:29-39

29After Jesus left the synagogue with James and John, they went to Simon and Andrew’s home.30Now Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. They told Jesus about her right away.31So he went to her bedside, took her by the hand, and helped her sit up. Then the fever left her, and she prepared a meal for them.32That evening after sunset, many sick and demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus.33The whole town gathered at the door to watch.34So Jesus healed many people who were sick with various diseases, and he cast out many demons. But because the demons knew who he was, he did not allow them to speak.35Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.36Later Simon and the others went out to find him.37When they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”38But Jesus replied,“We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to them, too. That is why I came.”39So he traveled throughout the region of Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and casting out demons. The Gospel of the Lord.

PeoplePraise to You, Lord Christ.

The Sermon

Nicene Creed

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made,of one Being with the Father;through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

This is a time for group prayer as well as personal prayers. Please prayerfully respond to the leader with the words in bold type. And please add your own prayers of thanksgiving and intercession either silently or aloud when invited to do so.

The Prayers of the People

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Help us to fulfill your great commission; making disciples of all nations; teaching them to obey all that you have commanded. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give grace, heavenly Father, to all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, and especially to Foley Beach, our Archbishop; Keith Andrews, our Bishop; Fr. Brian and Fr. Don, our Priests; and Dee Renner and Rosalind Marver, our Deacons, that by their life and teaching, they may proclaim your true and life-giving Word, and rightly administer your holy Sacraments. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We ask you to rule the hearts of all who govern us. May they administer justice, govern wisely, and strive for the welfare and peace of the whole world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We humbly ask you, gracious Lord, to comfort and strengthen all those who, in this earthly life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

I invite you to add your own thanksgivings or requests at this time.

We bless your holy Name for all your servants who departed this life in your faith and fear, praying you would grant us grace to follow their good examples, that with them we might partake in your heavenly kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer

Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

The Confession and Absolution of Sin

Deacon We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

Most merciful God,we confess that we have sinned against youin thought, word and deed,by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart;we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all thosewho sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
