PLC Plan

I. VISION:

BrodheadHigh School has established professional learning community teams that will collaborate together to promote both student and teacher growth. (PLC’s)

II. DEFINITION:

PLC is a group of people working together to improve student learning and promote teacher collaboration.

III. TEAMS:

There will be six PLC teams: English, Science, Math, Social Studies, Arts and Vocations. Arts will consist of Art, Choir, Band and Spanish. Careers will include Tech Ed, FACE, PE and Business. Each teacher will only belong to one team. These teams will meet once every three weeks. Core areas have a common planning time; others will meet before/after school. These meetings will be run by department heads or a chosen leader for that group.

IV. MISSION STATEMENT OF EACH TEAM:

  • Arts- To offer opportunities and encourage students to explore their creative sides and capabilities.
  • English- We will help struggling students improve their grades, participation, and effort towards English class.
  • Math- The Math department will continue to utilize our PLC to collaborate and discuss ways to help struggling students achieve excellence.
  • Science- The Science department will promote critical thinking and problem solving skills in the sciences. The staff will work together to comprehensively develop the science standards.
  • Social Studies- The Social Studies team will use collaboration, technology, professional development, intervention and best practice to promote an understanding of the Social Sciences in a democratic society.
  • Vocations- The vocations department will create a positive atmosphere where all students can succeed.

V. OUR BELIEFS:

  • Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs.
  • Curriculum and instructional practices should incorporate a variety of learning activities to accommodate differences in learning styles.
  • A safe a physically comfortable environment promotes students learning.
  • Teachers, administrators, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the school’s mission.
  • The commitment to continuous improvement is imperative if our school is going to enable students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners.

VII. TEAM GOALS- 09-10

  • Art-
  • Continue to recognize activities that happen inside and outside the classroom and make sure that the community is aware of what is all happening here at school.
  • Work harder at meeting together as a group.
  • English-
  • Decrease D’s and F’s by at lest 1% from the previous year.
  • Achieve 80% or higher for proficient or advanced on the WKCE test.
  • Math-
  • Each team member will attend at least one professional development/growth function.
  • Above 75% proficient or advanced on the WKCE test.
  • Science-
  • Increase WKCE results by 1%
  • Decrease F’s by 1%
  • Social Studies-
  • 90% proficient or advanced on WKCE results.
  • Try to be 15 points higher than the state average on the WKCE.
  • Vocations-
  • Decrease D’s and F’s by 1% of the end of the year results.
  • Each career area will promote their department to the community.
