-paint is corn starch and food colouring

-stations will represent the six houses

  • Teacher Appreciation Day

- council trying to start this to recognize efforts of staff and teachers

-named after the six companions of Brebeuf

-students compete in intramurals

-focus is on gr. 9 students

  • request from Rosanna to have student council approach CSPC if they need additional funds

  1. Tabling of Annual Report/Closing of 2015/16 Council
  • Last year had regular meetings but also had a big push to promote school
  • Still have $5000 earmarked for signage from trustee. Will cost ~$25,000 to put up a new sign. Because it was earmarked for the signage, money cannot be taken away from school
  • 2 fundraising events – used uniform sale & freezies sale (summer school)
  • Dr. Wiggers presentation – had request for him to do a follow up on his presentation
  • CSPC supported two initiatives from student council – basketball and March for Life
  • Have also donated $1000 to Kairos
  • Did some lobbying with the TTC (issue with buses not stopping to pick up boys) and last year’s administration worked with boys to change behaviour while on buses
  • Discussion about traffic lights and city standards.

-suggestion that the school consider different dismissal times

-suggestion that this be tabled for a future meeting

  • Treasurer’s report

-although we have a balance of $5,200, have $1500 set aside for the Leadership program (Kairos & Salesian)

  3. T o be a member of council, you must have a boy attending the school (exceptions are the appointed members, principal and parish representative); not an employee of the board working at Brebeuf; you cannot be part of the election committee. The majority of the parents on council must be Roman Catholic. Candidates must be present at the election, unless they have excused themselves to the committee prior to the meeting.

-academic – 77%

-historically it’s been very inconsistent

-staff will be analyzing the data further

-no trend from last five years (78, 76, 81, 78, 76)

-province 82%, board 82% - five points below the board

  • 220 graduating students last year – 107 in university, 70 in college, 43 either took year off, returned to Brebeuf or are working
  • Most popular programs of Brebeuf students going to university are Business, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science and Kinesiology
  • Most popular programs of Brebeuf students going to college are Engineering Technology, Business, General Arts and Science, Police Foundations, Culinary Skills, and Fitness and Lifestyle Management

-Oct – presentations to feeder schools

-Oct 17-18 – College Fair at Enercare Centre

-Oct 20, 7pm – parents of gr 12 students invited to learn about submitting university applications

-Wed Nov 2 – take our kids to work (grade 9s)

-November and December, guidance will be meeting with grade 12s – university applications due Jan 11, college applications due Feb 1

  • Thanksgiving masses on Oct 6
  • Daily morning communion service at 8am – all invited
  • Current athletics: volleyball, rugby, golf, cross country, jr soccer, tennis, flag football (gr 9)
  • upcoming events: Colour Me Beuf, Gr 9 rosary, Gr 9 curriculum night, Gr 10 OSSLT info night, early assessment letters to be sent home, Thanksgiving masses, PD Day Oct 7, Oct 13 – rosary, photo retake day, Oct 19 Academic awards night, Oct 21 Town Hall – listening to students voice – all classes in period 4 elect on representative to come to library and discuss issues
