JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Facilitates all clinical IT initiatives aimed to improve the health of hospital’s patient population, families, and hospital staff by optimizing information management and communication, including the use of technology in the direct provision of nursing care, establishing effective clinical systems, managing and delivering educational experiences, and supporting evidence-based care and nursing research.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Promotes the improvement of patient care and clinical excellence in clinical information systems via effective collaboration with Nursing leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating technology that affects Patient Care Services.
2. Acts as primary resource and consultant for Nursing Staff in developing and maintaining fully integrated electronic medical record.
3. Assists with the selection process, training, and implementation of an electronic patient care documentation system.
4. Serves as an expert in HIS, actively seeking ways to improve clinical functionality by soliciting feedback from staff. Assists in developing Computer -based training, and ongoing competencies.
5. Demonstrates NI performance improvement skills associated with clinical application use, as well as the use of IT in Nursing practice.
6. Identifies areas for potential research and utilizes research processes and findings related to technology and clinical practice to implement improvement and innovation. Responsible for maintaining on-line Net Access and PCDS training materials.
7. Facilitates the coordination and integration of interdepartmental communication. Responsible for Nursing Policy and Procedure upload to the Intranet and all updates.
8. Creates content, new pages and updates content for Intranet pages for Nursing Units and Nursing Informatics page.
9. Supports and follows the mission of NI, attends all Nursing Informatics Group meetings. Maintains all NI shared drives.
10. Responsible for active self-development by attending classes, and other educational functions in the area of specialty or as designated by Manager of NI

12. Involves crucial stakeholders in an issue or problem, facilitating open communication link.
13. Integrates ergonomics and human-computer interaction principles into informatics solution design , development, selection, implementation, and evaluation

14. Conducts a needs assessment to refine the issue or a problem
15. Designing models of informatics solutions.
16. Assists with analyzes of the economic, technical, and human resources available to support the informatics solution
17. Performs other assigned duties as required, serves a member of the informatics team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standing / Stands intermittently as required. May stand for up to 1 hour at a time.
Sitting / Sits for extended perils of time while operating computer and phone usage.
Walking / Walks to various areas of the hospital. Walks intermittently up to 2 hours per day.
Pushing/Pulling / Pushes drawers / desk extension, intermittently throughout day.
Squatting/Kneeling / Kneels or squats to plug/unplug various equipment, intermittently throughout day.
Lifting / Lifts necessary supplies and equipment utilized for job performance up to 30 lbs.
Carrying / Carry supplies and necessary equipment utilized for job performance up to 30 lbs.
Vision / Ability to read suboptimal copies, reports, computer screen, etc.
Hearing / Ability to perceive speech at normal loudness levels and to be able to respond to alarms, codes, answering phones and overhead pages.
Speaking / Communicates clearly and effectively with staff, physicians, visitor, and patients.
Psychological Requirements / Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Needs to be creative/proficient in writing skills and able to structure wording for target audience. Requires the ability to solve problems and respond to multiple requests, at times under stressful conditions.
Physiological Requirements / Ability to work indoors in a controlled environment. There is little chance of exposure to infectious diseases, toxic substances, bloodbourne pathogens, and blood/body substances while performing job related duties.
