Purpose of job:
To support the delivery of the British Council’smarketing and communications related work in the Western Balkans cluster (consisting of six markets: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) in order to achieve business objectives and positively impact the target markets. To support the British Council in radically increasing the scale at which we work to influence policy makers and mass audiences across the Western Balkans. To support implementation of marketing and communications plans and initiatives and maintain effective relationships and communications for products and services in the areas of arts, English, exams, education and society.
Context and environment:
The British Council has been operating in the Western Balkans since 1940. With around 50 staff in all six markets, we have ambitious plans to increase our impact, reach and income in line with our regional strategy. We work to help ensure a secure and prosperous future for the people of the Western Balkans working with governments, international organisations, businesses and other partners on institutional reform and capacity building. We enable professionals and young people to gain international skills and qualifications that will help them prosper and build a better future.
We want to understand our markets completely, engage with the right audiences and identify partners who share our vision and values. While the majority of our work is digitally implemented, we work across mediums to implement our programmes, deliver donor funded contracts, offer advice and consultancy to governments, administer international exams and offer different ways through which young people can up-skill their abilities and gain new experiences.
The position of Marketing and Communications Assistant Western Balkans is an integral part of the Young Marketing Professionals Programme, managed by the Head of Marketing and Communications Western Balkans.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
  • assist in assuring brand compliance of digital/printed promotional materials and live events across the Western Balkans
  • handle direct social media interaction with customers on social media channels, generate relevant content for British Council social media platforms, provide translations for existing content in English to one of the local languages spoken in the Western Balkans
  • regular uploading of new and updating existing content on British Council websites in the Western Balkans, provide translations for existing content in English to one of the local languages spoken in the Western Balkans
  • assist in drafting of press releases and distribution to media contacts
  • monitor and store press clippings
  • update records of all marketing and communications campaigns and assist in measuring their effectiveness
  • occasional office management and administrative support
Key relationships:
The role is very dependent on internal relationships and building relationships with colleagues across the international British Council network.
Other important features or requirements of the job
The post is based in Tirana. Some travel, evening and weekend workmight be necessary on occasions.
