Article I Name

The name of this organization shall be Lawther House. It is located on the second floor of Eaton Hall.

Article II Purpose and Goals

Section I: Lawther House is a residence-based group that is established in order to form an efficient house, ensure equal representation of each resident, and secure an environment that stimulates intellectual, social, recreational integration and interaction. It is the purpose of the House to create an atmosphere of fellowship among members as well as to help improve the scholarly, social, cultural awareness, and personal development of the house as a unit.

Section II: Lawther House abides by and supports established Iowa State University policies, State and Federal Lawsand follows local ordinances and regulations.

Lawther House agrees to annually complete President’s Training, Treasurer’s Training and Advisor Training (if required).

Section III: Non-Discrimination Statement- Iowa State University and Lawther House do not discriminate on the basis ofrace, ethnicity, sex, pregnancy, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information or status as a U.S Veteran.

Article III Membership

Section I: Membership is limited to those that physically reside within the House as designated by the Department of Residence. Non-student members, the CA-Advisor, and the HD Advisor cannot vote.

Section II: An Honorary Member may be voted in by majority vote at any House meeting. This person must be a registered ISU student. An Honorary Member may not be an officer,cannot vote, and can attend house meetings and events.

Article IV Officers

The term of office will be one full academic year (August to May). All officers shall comprise the Executive Committee of the organization. The Executive Committee shall meet in addition to regular organization meetings. The Executive Committee shall appoint such committees that are needed to carry out organization goals. Elections shall be held within the first two weeks of the semester and be decided by a majorityhand vote by the members.

The officers of this organization must meet the following requirements:

(a) Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) as stated below and meet that minimum GPA in the semester immediately prior to the election/appointment, the semester of election/appointment and semesters during the term of office. For undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, the minimum GPA is 2.00. In order for this provision to be met, at least six hours (half-time credits) must have been taken for the semester under consideration.

(b) Be in good standing with the university and enrolled: at least half time (six or more credit hours), if an undergraduate student (unless fewer credits are required to graduate in the spring and fall semesters) during the term of office, and at least half time (four or more credits), if a graduate level student (unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of their degree as defined by the Continuous Registration Requirement) during their term of office.

(c) Be ineligible to hold an office should the student fail to maintain the requirements as prescribed in (a) and (b)."

Officer Duties:

In order to create a new chair, a majority of the house must approve it.

1. President

~ Preside over all meetings

~ Represent organization on campus

~ Ensure that the organization is operating in conformity with the standards set forth by Iowa State University and Student Activities Center

~ Maintain communication with the Lawther House Adviser

~ Attend the weekly Eaton Hall Council meeting

~ Call Cabinet meetings

2. Vice President

~ Preside over house meetings in the absence of the President

~ Maintain communication with the Lawther House Adviser

~ Provide information regarding Campus & Hall Events through Flyers

3. Secretary

~ Take detailed notes at all house meetings

~ Send the notes via email to the members of the housein a prompt manner

~ Make GoogleDocs and Surveys if necessary

~ Work with Vice President to announce upcoming events

4. Treasurer

~ Complete vouchers, intramural forms, and P-Card transactions

~ Approve any items before purchasingsuggested bycabinetmembers for Lawther House

~ Keep an updated record on the GoogleDoc

~ Provide an updated record at each meeting

5. Social Chair

~ May be up to two

~ Plan social events for floor (minimum 2 per semester)

~ Encouraged to plan social events for Hall provided by Lawther (1 per semester)

6. Academic Chair

~ Compile a common course list

~ Perform necessary tasks to comply with Eaton-sponsored competitions

~ Have an academic contest each semester

7.Intramural Chair

~ Know dates of Intramural sign ups/end dates

~ Organize teams within the house or contact other houses to play with Lawther

~ Make sure enough house funds to pay for intramurals wanted

8. Recycling Chair

~ Place bins in trash room and label each bin

~ Take redeemables to get money for floor & turn money into treasurer

9. Birthday Chairs

~ May be up to two, but one preferred

~ Obtain a list of members’ birthdays

~ Celebrate the month’s birthdays at the first house meeting of every month with candy or some celebratory event, include those with summer birthdays at some point

10. Cookie Chair

~ Make Cookies and set out during house meetings or other occasions

11. Risk Management Officer (CA Advisor default)

The role of the risk management officer is [a] to recommend risk management policies or procedures to (name of student organization), [b] to submit documentation to ISU’s Risk Management Office and [c] to ensure that Risk Mgt. procedures are implemented at all of the orgzanizationevents.

12. Advisors

The advisors of the House consist of both the Community Advisor (CA) who lives on the House and the Hall Director (HD) of the building that the House resides in. Although the HD serves as the official advisor to the House, the CA carries out many advisory roles including advising the Cabinet, meeting weekly with the House President, assisting with elections, etc. The HD is responsible for authorizing all purchases of the House through both the Voucher system and the Purchasing Card system.

A. CA Advisor

~ Maintain communication and meet with officer(s) regularly

~ Ensure that the organization is operating in conformity with the standards set forth by Iowa State University and Student Activities Center

~ Appointed by Eaton Hall

B. HD Advisor

~Awareness of financial expenditures

Officer Removal:

Officers may be removed from office by majority vote of the other officers if actions are deemed inappropriate by the membership. Each member is allowed 3 unexcused absences (excused=SI sessions, tests, ISU sponsored activities, Greek work, volunteering), and must notify the CA or house president at least 12 hours in advance. They may also be removed for failure to uphold the constitutional guidelines.This vote must be done by secret ballot.The officer is permitted to speak before the Executive Committee about the charges made concerning her performance. The officer is not permitted to participate in the deliberation of the Executive Committee regarding the charges.

Officer Replacement:

If an officer is removed, or resigns, from office, an election will be held at the next house meeting.

Article V Finances

All monies belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account

established for this organization at the Campus Organizations Accounting Office and/or approved institution/office (must receive authorization via Campus Organizations Accounting Office). All funds must be deposited within 48 hours after collection. The Adviser to this organization must approve and sign each expenditure before payment.

No dues are required for participation in Lawther House.

Article VI Amendments & Ratifications

This constitution may be amended and subsequently ratified at any time, with the unanimous approval of the President, Vice President, and Treasurer and with a simple majority of the membership, not counting abstainers. Members will be given one week to consider amendments. Amended constitution will be submitted within 10 days to Student Activities Center for approval.Ratified amendments to this Constitution must be submitted to the Student Activities Center within (10) days.
