Due: March 26th

  1. Choose a topic from the DSM V. You may also research a broad category or a more specific disorder.
  2. I would prefer you work by yourself but if you really need to you may work with a partner.
  3. Please be organized and ready to present. Be sure to check your presentation for errors and rehearse!!
  1. Requirements:
  2. A presentation of your choice. (make your own video, PowerPoint, poster, game, lecture, a TV news program (like 20/20), a talks show (like Oprah), etc)
  3. An outline or brochure detailing your disorder.
  4. A handout for the class (quiz, worksheet, notes). This has to be different from the outline or brochure.
  5. A works cited in APA format with at least 5 resources. (Medline is a great source from gowyld) At least one source must be a book. (The DSM and your textbook do not count) Please try to use online databases and stay away from websites.
  6. Your presentation/factsheet must include the following information:
  7. Symptoms/Definition
  8. Include how many must be present and for how long in order to receive a diagnosis.
  9. Causes (known or supposed)
  10. Physical causes such as genetic factors, neuro-chemical factors and brain abnormalities.
  11. Psychosocial causes such as learned behaviors, family factors, stress, cognitive factors and social skills.
  12. Prevalence
  13. What percentage of the population exhibits the disorder at any given time?
  14. Are there any male/female or other subgroup differences?
  15. Treatment
  16. What are the biomedical treatments such as drugs and electroconvulsive shock therapy?
  17. What are the psychological treatments such as psychoanalysis, cognitive therapy, aversion therapy, and group therapy?
  18. Prognosis: How likely is it that the disorder can be cured or managed effectively? What are the odds that it will reoccur? What is the likely outcome for the person with the disorder?
  19. History: (only if you can find the information) what were the previous thoughts or identifications of the disorder? What were and are some stereotypes people have about the disorder? What were previous treatments?
  20. Any other information you would like to share.

**Video clips are acceptable. Video clips must be appropriate for school. Your entire presentation may not be longer than 15 minutes.**

**Any copies you need made must be turned into me at least 24 hours before class**
