Access Statement For The Byre Vegetarian B&B, Harbottle, Northumberland
Introduction
We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home based two-bedroom bed and breakfast. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.
Pre-Arrival
• Local transport is very limited but there is a bus service from Newcastle through Morpeth to Rothbury and Thropton. By special arrangement we can meet guests in Rothbury or Thropton or provide the local taxi numbers.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• We are on the main street of the village.
• On Arrival to the property our entrance is on the right of the bus stop in Harbottle. The drive is an uphill slope (gravel) but cars can drive right in.
• No marked parking bays but there is ample room for all cars.
• The surface is level, flat and gravel, and drop-offs can be made on the paved area. There is a 4" step down and a hand-rail and temporary ramp have been ordered from our joiner.
• We can assist guests with luggage.
Main Entrance & Reception
• The front door has one step 10cm high and is 81cm wide.
• On entry into our home there is a hallway 2 by 2 metres.

• The floor has ceramic tiles.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
• The passage to the bedrooms and sitting/dining room is 94cm wide at the narrowest part and is well lit. The floor is tiled. The sitting/dining room is on the same level as the entrance.
• There are two steps - (of 13cm) - to the bedrooms and a hand rail on the right.
Public Areas - WC
• Room 1(lilac room) has a private bathroom next door.
• Room 2 (blue room) has an en-suite.
• A small WC (not suitable for wheelchairs) is in the entrance area on the same level as the entrance.
Dining Room
• Breakfast is served in the sitting/dining room. There are no steps.
• Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
• Tables have underspace of 61cm by 61cm and height of 62cm (legs on each corner). We have wooden blocks to raise the height of one table by 10cm. Chairs can be moved to accommodate.
• Menus are provided in large print.
• We do not play background music in any area of the B&B.
Laundry
• Use of our utility room – please ask us.
Shop
• Non available in Harbottle, but please ask us for anything you may have forgotten to bring i.e. toothpaste etc.
Outdoor Facilities
• Seating in the sheltered courtyard area. Binoculars. Garden.Meditation room in the garden at the top. Difficult access without hand rails but to be upgraded as soon as possible.
Bedrooms
• Bedroom 1 and bathroom Door widths 74cm. Single beds, so can bebooked as adouble bedded room or a twin bedded room. Beds movable on request to achieve 85cm routes to either side in any combination.
• Furniture is moveable on request
• Beds are 38cm high but one can be raised with blocks on request
• One armchair.
• Fitted short pile carpet on the floor
• Bedroom 2 - Door width 74cm, en-suite door 67cm.Single beds, so it can bebooked as adouble bedded room or a twin bedded room.
• There is an ensuite shower room (see below for details)
• Beds are 38cm high but one can be raised with blocks on request

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]
• Room 1 private bathroom. Door width 74 cm.
Free floor space clear of door is 150cm x 150cm
• The shower cubicle has a step of 19cm and edge of 13cm high. There is a grab-rail on the right of the step and a vertical grab-rail on the back wall of the shower, controls on the left wall. A seat is available for the shower and bath.
• The bath edge is 49cm high and the large oval bath has a seating space 20cm from the bath bottom.
• The pedestal wash basin has a curved front a clear underspace. It is 78cm high.
• The toilet has left-side transfer with available space of 91cm. The toilet is 43cm high
• There is a horizontal rail beside the toilet on both sides. We will provide a stool for the toilet paper when necessary.
• Room 2 ensuite - small and no wheelchair access
• Door width 67cm wide opening outwards.
• Shower cubicle edge/step is 24cm high.
• The small pedestal washbasin is rounded at the front and 79cm high.
• Toilet is 43cm high
Self-Catering Kitchen
• Tea/coffee making facilities are in the sitting/dining area on a table 81cm high and wheelchair accessible.
Grounds and Gardens
• We have a large courtyard area for parking with paved areas and gravel and seating. It is private and not-overlooked and has some flower borders and pot plants. The elevated garden and garden glass room (meditation room) is also available to our guests but access is steep. Plans for easier access and rails are afoot.
Additional Information
• Assistance dogs are welcomed by arrangement.
• There is no mobile phone reception. Guests are welcome to use our land-line.
• We are able to use the front door and sitting/dining room door in the need of evacuation. We will alert residents personally if evacuation is needed. We can provide an alarm bell for rooms ifnecessary. Please let us know of any special requirements at the time of booking.
• We are a no smoking building (smoking is allowed in the courtyard area). We can accept small items of food/medication for storage in our fridge by arrangement (access available 24 hours).

Future Plans
• Railings and more accessible steps in elevated garden. Portable ramp for the one-step in the courtyard. Handrail for step in courtyard. Completion by end of 2007
