We, the students, staff, and parents of the MesaAcademy for Advanced Studies recognize the importance of being academically honorable.

The academically honorable student attending the MesaAcademy for Advanced Studies understands that the IB Learner Profile is an integral part of their daily life and that it is the foundation of this policy.

IB learners strive to be:

We believe that these qualities, when consistently applied, will establish skills and behavior that support best practices when used in the classroom, for homework, and at the test/examination level.

The academically honest Academy student:

DOES

  • Acknowledge help from parents, older students and friends
  • Acknowledge the source of direct quotations
  • Acknowledge reference materials in a bibliography
  • Keep and maintain accurate, personal course notes
  • Understand and abide by the school’s rules concerning cheating
  • Acknowledge, in a specific manner, help from another person
  • Ask beforehand what kind of external help is permissible
  • Acknowledge, in a specific manner, information taken from books, magazines, and the internet
  • Follow all exam rules
  • Understand the concept of plagiarism

DOES NOT

  • Use notes during a test unless allowed by a teacher
  • Copy from another student during a test
  • Copy from the homework of another student
  • Hand in work as his/her own that has been copied
  • Give another student his/her work to copy
  • Do homework for another student
  • Share test information with another student
  • Submit work done by another student, parent, friend or tutor as his/her own.
