Since establishment in 1985, over 2000 students have graduated successfully from FNTI with certificates, diplomas and degrees, granted in partnership with Ontario’s Colleges and Universities. An indigenous post-secondary institution, FNTI offers programs targeted at indigenous learners across a wide range of post-secondary disciplines including aviation, social work, health, business, and public administration. FNTI delivers programming locally through its main campus in Tyendinaga on Ontario’s beautiful Bay of Quinte, as well as in numerous community locations throughout Ontario.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of theJustice Circle Coordinator, the Adult Diversion Worker is responsible for working with the Indigenous adult population who are in conflict with the law. Providing culturally specific methods of intervention and services that address the specific, assessed needs of the client and/or outcomes of a community restorative circle/initiative. The incumbent will support healing and reintegration of the client and provide culturally appropriate programming, including crime prevention awareness.

Duties:

Under the direction of the Justice Circle Coordinator, the key responsibilities of the Adult Diversion Worker will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Promote and recommend alternative methods of conflict resolution within the Community of Tyendinaga and surrounding areas;
• Ensure the objectives of the program are being met;
• Keep statistics and databases for all pertinent information;
• Work in collaboration with other agencies, courts, organizations or groups;
• Work one-on-one with clients and their families;
• Assist in the facilitation of community justice forums;
• Maintain case files and reports;
• Work closely with clients at risk, providing support, advocacy, intervention and prevention of criminal behavior;
• Supporting the healing and reintegration of clients;
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of an accredited course in mediation, family group conferencing or alternative justice practise;
• Professional development courses relating to conflict resolution;
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in criminal justice and/or social work;

OR;

• Combination of education and experience deemed relevant by FNTI;
• Must have knowledge of the restorative justice program;
• Knowledge of Haudenosaunee culture and teachings;
• Knowledge of alternative conflict resolution processes;
• Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada;
• Knowledge of family/group conferencing;
• Knowledge of conventional court practices/diversion processes;
• Must possess a valid class ‘G’ drivers license and have daily transportation;
• Must be able to provide a clear vulnerable sector check;
• Must be willing to participate in additional training
