9th Grade Course Registration

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I know what my student will be taking for his/her core classes next year?

  1. All parents of 8th grade students will receive a letter from Sheehan next week. The letter will contain your child’s core course recommendations.

Q. I’m having a hard time logging into my PowerSchool account. What should I do?

A. If you haven’t yet done so, please create a PowerSchool account. The instructions for how to do this can be found on the Moran website. If you need your log-in information or your child’s log-in information, please contact Judy Rooney at 203-741-2907 or

Q. I’ve logged into PowerSchool but it won’t let me register.

A. The window for registration does not open until February 27th. It will close on March 11th. Please be certain to log-in during that time frame and register for your child’s electives and alternates.

Q. What if I do not agree with the core classes my child was recommended for?

A. There is an override process. Please contact your child’s school counselor for more information.

Q. We registered… now what?

A. Your child must return the letter we sent to you as well as the Program of Studies to their homeroom teacher NO LATER THAN March 11th. Please be certain to check off whether or not you registered for electives and alternates at home.

A. Please check off the box indicating this.

Q. Why are we registering for electives and alternates from home this year?

A. We believe that by doing this, parents and students are put into the driver’s seat when planning for high school.

Q. What if I was accepted into the VoAg program? How do I register?

A. One of your electives will be the Grade 9 course offered within the program you were accepted in. For example, if you were accepted into the Food Science Program, one of your electives will be Food Science 1. Please refer to the VoAg course offerings in the Program of Studies (pg. 18-21).

Q. My child wants to take Latin or Transportation Systems. Does that mean they go to Lyman Hall?

A. Yes, your child will attend Lyman Hall for all of their classes. You do not need to “apply” to take these courses. You must let Moran Guidance know this is your intention so you have access to register for these classes and then select the desired course as an elective.
