A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ROBERT R. SCOTT OF COLUMBIA, PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA FORESTRY ASSOCIATION, UPON RECEIVING THE “ORDER OF THE PALMETTO” AND THANKING HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE THROUGH HIS LEADERSHIP IN PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY AND THE WOOD AND PAPER PRODUCTS INDUSTRY.

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize those South Carolinians who give their time and energy to making the Palmetto State a better place to live and creating a better environment for all our citizens; and

Whereas, Robert R. Scott of Columbia, South Carolina, has served as President of the South Carolina Forestry Association since April 1969; and

Whereas, throughout his thirtyfive year career, he has guided development of the South Carolina Forestry Association since its inception; and

Whereas, his vision and leadership has helped improve the economic development of forestry which now generates fourteen billion dollars annually and has helped shape the direction of the forest resource; and

Whereas, a native of Arkansas, Mr. Scott has received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and economics from Ouachita University at Arkadelphia, Arkansas; and

Whereas, Mr. Scott contributed to his church and community in many ways throughout his lifetime spent in South Carolina; and

Whereas, he has served as President of the South Carolina Association of Executives and National Council of Forestry Association Executives; and

Whereas, he is a charter member of the Palmetto Agribusiness Council and chaired the Agribusiness Subcommittee of the Governor’s Economic Development Task Force; and

Whereas, a member of the Commission on the Future of Clemson University, Mr. Scott also served on Clemson’s Public Service Advisory Committee; and

Whereas, honored in 1989 as the South Carolina Forestry Association Executive of the Year, Mr. Scott went on to be recognized by the National Council of Forestry Association Executives for his dedicated service to forestry and professional forestry association management in 1994; and

Whereas, he is an advisor to the South Carolina Forestry Commission, Clemson University Department of Forest Resources, the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, the South Carolina Transportation Policy Council, and the USDASC Agricultural Council; and

Whereas, a deacon at St. Andrews Baptist Church in Columbia, Mr. Scott’s sacrifice of his time, energy, and talents throughout his lifetime to so many worthy causes led to his receipt of the prestigious “Order of the Palmetto” in 2003, South Carolina’s highest award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to Robert R. Scott of Columbia, President of the South Carolina Forestry Association, upon receiving the “Order of the Palmetto” and thank him for his many years of service to the State through his leadership in promoting sustainable forestry and the wood and paper products industry.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Robert R. Scott.
