Main purpose of Job:

The post holder will, under the direction of the Domain Leader and Subject Leader, assist in a range of strategic and operational duties requiring subject-specific knowledge and skills relating to the following subject area(s).

  • Media Studies

As an integral part of the subject team, the post holder will contribute to the development and assessment of qualifications, the provision of CPD and resources within the subject area and proactively pursue the marketing of the subjectwith stakeholders.The post holder will liaise with other departments within the organisation and relevant appointees to ensure the effective deliveryof the qualifications and assessments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The principal duties and responsibilities on this job description are closely related the Subject Leader role. It is envisaged that there will be a team approach to the duties and responsibilities and that the Subject Associate will work under the direction of the Subject Leader.

1. Commissioned Developments (Qualifications, Resources and CPD)

  • To contribute to specification revision and development through co-ordinating the work of examiners, teacher groups and consultants
  • To consult with examination centres over proposed changes
  • To update specification documents and related materials
  • To contribute to the development of educational resources required in order to support the teaching and learning of WJEC specifications, and to collaborate with others in the development of such resources in hard copy and electronically.
  • To liaise with resource providers with regards to specification requirements and to monitor on-going work
  • To plan the content for and deliver a variety of CPD training (including webinars) in relevant subjects for teachers and other interested parties
  • To appoint and train suitably qualified CPD presenters to ensure provision of high quality CPD in the subject area(s)
  • To deputise for the subject officer at CPD events to ensure high quality provision
  • To liaise with regional reps and undertake centre visits for the subject area(s).

2. Assessment Delivery

  • To approve and appoint suitably qualified assistant examiners andto support the recruitment of further appointeesin shortage areas
  • To monitor, in conjunction with the Principal Examiners and Principal Moderators, the progress of marking and moderating in the relevant subjects
  • To assist the Subject Leader with completion of centre scaling and relevant documentation
  • To arrange, service, advise and direct the procedures of examination conferences ensuring that the mark scheme is accurate and updated and that specification requirements are adhered to
  • To quality assure reports to centres regarding examination performance and specifically in relation to performance in internal assessment
  • To ensure performance management of assistant examiners and moderators is undertaken and collated to inform future appointments
  • To liaise with the series delivery team to provide accurate information for centres
  • To manage calendar of meetings and events for the subject
  • To edit Principal Examiner reports and scaled centre reports as directed by the Subject Leader
  • To assist the Subject Leader in selecting suitable work for standardising and awarding purposes

3. Subject promotion and Communications

  • To promote WJEC’s provision in the relevant subject areas through appropriate channels, including providing material for and quality assuring the relevant subject specific pages on the WJEC and Eduqas websites
  • To respond to requests for subject information and materials from centres, both verbally and in electronic or letter format, relating to relevant subject issues
  • To oversee the provision of guidance material where necessary for new product developments
  • To represent WJEC at subject specific conferences and exhibitions
  • To composesubject bulletins and circulars as required
  • To manage subject presenters for subject events

4. Domain responsibilities

  • To work effectively with Subject Leaders, implementing a team approach to the deployment of subject expertise
  • To contribute to the domain meeting group
  • To represent the Subject Leader at operational steering groups
  • To provide advice for other departments as appropriate
  • To follow agreed guidelines in relation to WJEC's bilingual policy
  • To enhance skills and knowledge through appropriate professional development courses
  • From time to time other duties commensurate with the grade which extend beyond individual subject areas, e.g. activity in support of developmental initiatives
