YOUNG ENTERPRISE JOURNEY AWARD 2017 CRITERIA

WHO CAN APPLY?

The Journey award is open to individuals competing in the Company Programme 2016/17 across the UK and is an opportunity for them to tell their story so we can celebrate their achievements.

·  A current student on the Company Programme can nominate themselves.

OR

·  A teacher, parent/guardian, business adviser or fellow student can nominate a current student on the Company Programme.

This is an award for an individual – NOT a team award, although all members of a team may enter separately.

To be eligible for this award, students must:

·  Be prepared for their story to be shared on the Young Enterprise and sponsor website/social media and at Regional and UK Young Enterprise Finals

·  Be prepared to be interviewed about their experiences on stage in front of an audience of up to 500 people should they reach the UK finals

·  Be prepared to participate in press coverage which may result from winning the award.

JUDGING CRITERIA

At Young Enterprise, we make the connection between school and the world of work, enabling young people to develop the knowledge and attitudes they need to succeed, building on 8 key skills:

•Communication

•Confidence

•Financial Capability

•Initiative

•Organisation

•Problem-solving

•Teamwork

•Resilience

We want to know about the impact Company Programme has had on the individual nominated, including the skills they have developed as a result of taking part.

Did Company Programme help you or a student you have worked with develop the confidence to talk to strangers or the skills to deliver an empowering speech?

Did it help you or a student you have worked with overcome an obstacle or discover a new ability which may change the course of your/their lives?

FURTHER INFORMATION

·  This category will be awarded at both the Regional and UK Finals.

·  Regional judging panels will review entries from their area and choose a winner who will receive a trophy.

·  A judging panel will then review the winning entries from each region and pick the top 3 entries.

·  The top 3 finalists will receive an all expenses paid trip to London for the UK Final (including accommodation if required) which will take place on Thursday 6 July 2017 at the BFI, London, where the overall winner will be announced.

What should a teacher or business adviser say on the entry form?

We are looking for a teacher or business adviser to give some context to support an entry. It’s useful for our judges to know what the teacher/business advisor thinks about the candidate’s journey, what they were like before they took part in the Company Programme and the difference they’ve noticed in that individual over time.

What should I say in the video?

·  You only need to produce a video at this stage if you self-nominate. If you are nominated by someone else then you do not need to produce a video at this stage, but should you get through to the next round we will then require you to produce a video to support your application.

·  Do not include footage of anyone who hasn’t given consent to appear in the film or use copyrighted music / images.

·  Unless you tell us otherwise, we have a right to use your video on our digital channels and in our digital marketing campaigns.

Your video should include:

·  Tell us a bit about yourself – name, age, where you’re from, what you enjoy

·  What has your experience of the Company Programme been so far?

·  What skills have you gained?

·  Why do you think you should win the Company Journey Award?

You may wish to include other footage to support the application such as footage of your company in action. Ensure it is a maximum of 2 minutes long.

We’re not looking for fancy editing, or broadcast quality footage. We want to hear about what you have learnt and the impact taking part in the programme had on you.

A video can be filmed on any device – smart phone, laptop, webcam, handheld camera etc. Should you wish to create a video comprised of numerous clips, we suggest windows movie maker or iMovie if you are a MAC user. A good and free app on android phones or iphones is WeVideo.

**You will NOT be judged for your editing or the quality of your video**
