YELLOW RIBBON APPLICATION-2011-12

CreightonUniversity has been approved by the Department of Veteran Affairs to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Under this agreement, the University will accept up to 100 students who meet eligibility requirements on a first come, first served basis. Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree or certificate program in UniversityCollege. The Yellow Ribbon Program is not available to students enrolled in other divisions of the University

To be eligible, the studentmust beapproved by the VA to attend under the Post 911 GI Bill (CH 33). Only individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) may receive this funding. Therefore, the veteran or student receiving benefits under the transfer of eligibility rules may be eligible if:

The veteran or service person served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months;

Was honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001;

Or is a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

For 2011-12, reimbursement for tuition and fees under CH 33 is made directly to the University at a rate not to exceed $17,500 per year. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, Creighton has agreed to provide financial assistance to all qualified students for a portion ofthe difference between the net Creighton tuition and/fees and the amount of reimbursement approved by the VA. For 2011-12Creighton has agreed to provide financial assistance up to $7,500 per year for qualified undergraduate students in UniversityCollege.

Students approved for the Yellow Ribbon Program will be eligible for this program for the length of their education as long as they remain continuously enrolled in UniversityCollege and remain eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill. Continuous enrollment is defined as attending in the regular semesters without a break in attendance until the program is completed. Attendance in Summer Sessions is not required to be considered in continuous enrollment. However, Yellow Ribbon benefits are available to students who choose to attend in the summer. Students who drop out or stop out are required to reapply should they return to the University. Such students will be considered for the Yellow Ribbon Program on a first come, first served basis along with other new and returning students.
