Where the Dancing Music Played

The day Ashley Pettus wore her hoody and busted a move of one kind and another

Ms. Sp8 called her “DANCING QUEEN!”

and Ashley said, “I CAN BREAK IT DOWN!”

so Ashley was sent to her computer without busting another move.

That very day on Ashley’s computer the tunes played

and played—

and played until her speakers bopped to the beat

and the classroom became a dance party all over

and the students formed a path for Ashley

and she danced down the path to “the left…to the left”

and “to the right…to the right”

and she “dipped baby dipped” almost to the floor

to where the Dancing Music played.

And when Ashley came to the place where the dancing music played

the students clapped their wonderful claps and high-fived their wonderful high-fives

and shook their wonderful hips and showed their wonderful moves

till Ashley said “STOP! IT’S ASHLEY TIME!”

and shamed them with her dance moves by staring into their amazed wide eyes without

stopping once

and the students were frightened and called her the best dancing queen of all

and made her queen of all dancing queens.

“And now,” cried Ashley, “let the wild dance party begin!”

“STOP! IT’S ASHLEY TIME!” Ashley said and sent the other students to their computers without another move. And Ashley the queen of all dancing queens was sad and wanted to be where a teacher taught her best of all.

Then all around from Ms. Sp8’s computer across the class

she heard good tunes for dancing

so Ashley gave up being the queen of all dancing queens.

But the other students cried, “Oh, please don’t stop dancing—

we’ll dance with you—we love you so!”

And Ashley said, “No!”

The dancing students clapped their wonderful claps and high-fived their wonderful high-fives and shook their wonderful hips and showed their wonderful moves

but Ashley danced back to Ms. Sp8’s computer and said “What it is”

and danced down “the left…to the left”

and “to the right…to the right”

and “dipped baby dipped”

to Ms. Sp8’s desk in Ms. Sp8’s room

where Ashley found Ms. Sp8 waiting for her

and the music still played.
