2015-16Confirmation

Participant Packet

Welcome to Confirmation on St. Michael Parish!

Today marks the beginning of the journey you and your teen will take toward the Sacrament of Confirmation. What a privilege for me to help guide your teen in this process!

This registration packet includes essential schedules, descriptions, expectations, and documents you will need to complete Confirmation successfully. Please take the time to read the contents thoroughly. Deadlines and requirements are extremely important to complete the Sacrament of Confirmation. Candidates who do not fulfill requirements may not be eligible to receive the Sacrament.

This packet includes:

  • Requirements. What must a teen do to reach Confirmation day? The requirements page will list all the activities needed in the preparation process. Post this page in an obvious location so you see it often and refer to it with questions.
  • Confirmation Information Form. To be filled out and returned to Kelsie as soon as possible.
  • Service Hours Form. To be completed for proof of completed service hours.

This is a special time of spiritual formation for your teen, one I hope will strengthen your entire family. I look forward to formation with your teen, but also realize that you – not me – are the primary teacher. Your example as a Catholic means a great deal. With that in mind, we ask for your continued faithfulness in these areas:

  • Attending Sunday Liturgy and Holy Days of Obligation.
  • Supporting a parish ministry with the gift of your time. If you are not currently involved with a Parish Ministry, I can get you plugged in! Please know that it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you ask about this, if needed. Opportunities to participate are not restricted to Youth Ministry or Confirmation, but include all parish ministries such as Knights of Columbus, Eucharistic Adoration, and St. Vincent de Paul, to name a few.
  • Being true to the Biblical call to tithe.

We look forward to the journey with you.

In His Service,

Kelsie Mattingly

-Confirmation Requirements-

Regular attendance.

Confirmation preparation is youropportunity to be immersed in the Catholic faith. Attendance at Lifeteen nights and 5pm Youth (Lifeteen) Mass participation is a large part of the process. Eligible candidates for Confirmation have been actively involved in some form of catechesis for at least one year before preparation. If you haven’t been involved in anything, please see Kelsie right away!

Because any absence is detrimental for you and for the whole group, it is mandatory that you attend. You may miss up to THREE weeks of Mass and Lifeteen programing for the year. You may miss only ONE confirmation classes.

There are three parts of the weekly confirmation program:

  1. Confirmation Afternoons. Confirmation-Specific workshop days will take four Saturdays beginning in January from 10am – 4pm. Reminder: You can only miss ONE!
  2. Lifeteen. Life nights take place beginning with the 5pm Youth Mass on Sunday’s until 8pm. Dinner is provided. Just another reminder that you are able to miss THREE of these for the year!
  3. Active participation at Mass. This means you are not just sitting in mass, but are helping by being a Lector, an usher, an Altar Server or a greeter at our 5pm Youth Mass. Each of you will be required to try your hand at being a Lector and will be trained to be a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan.

Exceptions will NOT be made for extracurricular activities, sports, social events, etc. If you feel like you have a valid exception outside of missing the allowed classes, those will be heard on a case-by-case basis and must be made ahead of time. If you are more than 15 minutes late, that will count as an absence.

Stewardship.
Stewardship is a large part of our faith. TWENTY hours of community service is required to begin understanding how to responsibly share ourselves with those in need. This needs to be ‘direct service’ to people and done in your own time. Your service in Mass does NOT count and service in which you are paid is not applicable. If you need help to find a project, please let Kelsie know ASAP.

In addition to your service project you need to begin tithing to the church. Although you family already does this, Confirmation is about taking ownership of your faith life and this is a part of our faith.

Confirmation Retreat.

We will be partaking in a NET retreat in May. More information will be available as soon as possible. If unable to attend this retreat due to SIGNIFICANT CONFLICT there will analternative options available. However a retreat is a requirement set forth by the Archdiocese for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Preparedness Interview.
In order to ensure that the Sacrament of Confirmation is the candidate’s full and present decision, candidates willparticipate in one-on-one interviews toward the end of the process.

Confirmation Mass.
We have not received our date for Confirmation from the Archdiocese, but as soon as this date is finalized you will be notified. It will most likely be on a weekend during May.
