As illness and injuries can occur at any time, ensure your house name or number is clearly visible from the road by day and night, so that, when you need it most, you can be found quickly and easily.

The three following steps will assist greatly:

• Check your house name or numberis visible from the road
• Make sure that there are no trees or bushes obstructing the sign
• Switch on, when possible, an outside light.

Please be aware that during this week there have been more reported dog thefts in the ThamesValley area. Please remain vigilant and ensure that your kennel security is adequate.

On Wednesday the Country Watch team conducted a Stay Under 40 speeding operation. Thirteen vehicles were caught travelling between 46 – 57 miles per hour.

I have spent this morning in a meeting with the Training Department putting together the Rural Awareness package that will be delivered to over 1000 Police Officers and Staff working in rural areas. We will shortly be looking for people to assist in delivering the package by attending training sessions and speaking with Police Officers and staff about rural issues.

Theft From Motor Vehicle

• 28/02. Bolderwood. Vehicle window smashed and handbag taken from within.
• 05/03. Ower. 4x4 vehicle used to access fields. Diesel siphoned from tractor.
• 05/03. Andrews Mare car park. Wallet stolen from jacket left on rear seat.

Rural Theft

• 28/02. Ringwood. Two female albino ferrets stolen from cage in garden.
• 28/02. Cadnam. Attempted entry to container in field used to store tack and feed.
• 28/02. Hythe. Batteries stolen from mini-digger and mini-dumper.
• 02/03. Beaulieu. Approximately £1000 of heating oil stolen from domestic tank.
• 02/03. Tytherley. 300 litres of heating oil stolen from tank.
• 03/03. Martin. Nissan Navara stolen from driveway overnight.
• 05/03. Holbury. Lead stolen from roof of premises.

Miscellaneous Offences

• 28/02. Ashurst. Hydraulic rams damaged on wooden access gates providing access to forest track.
• 04/03. East Wellow. Report of dog worrying livestock resulting in injuries to sheep. Investigation ongoing.

Fly Tipping

• 26/02. Holmsley Inclosure. 5 – 6 bags of garden waste dumped.
• 27/02. Burley. Brick rubble dumped.
• 27/02. Culverley. Car tyre dumped.
• 01/03. Ashurst. Field gate rammed and a quantity of asbestos dumped in field.
• 02/03. Lyndhurst Golf Course. 13 diesel/oil cans dumped in underpass.
• 04/03. Darkwater. Carpet and paint tins dumped.
• 04/03. Dibden. Timber and roofing felt dumped.
• 06/03. Blackwell Common car park. Household rubbish dumped.

Vehicles of interest

• W407SFA. Green Vauxhall Astra. Seven reported sightings at various locations throughout the area of Eastern European male flagging down motorists asking for cash in exchange for gold rings. Please do not hand over any cash and report any sightings immediately.

Animal Accidents

Testing smoke alarms

Important

Never remove the battery from your detector, even for a short period.

At least one smoke alarm should be fitted to each level of your home. In order to make sure your smoke alarm can save your life, it is important to maintain it properly and test it regularly.

Looking after your smoke alarm

Most budget smoke detectors will come with a battery already fitted. This battery will last for at least one year. Make a point of changing that battery annually.

Consider using one of your children's birthdays, or a special occasion, to remind you to change it.

• Once a week - test the battery: press the button until the alarm sounds.
• Once a year - change the battery (unless it's a long life alarm).
• Twice a year - open the case and gently vacuum the inside to remove dust from the sensors. If it doesn't open, vacuum through the holes.
• After 10 years - replace your alarm with a whole new unit.

Smoke Alarms Testing Reminders

Smoke alarms require routine testing to ensure that they function correctly when they are really needed. However, we tend to forget to carry out this test. This reminder service will remind you when your alarms need testing next time.

A stolen dog from Winchester has been reunited with her owner after over two years.

The Springer spaniel dog was stolen from a garden in Kings Worthy in November 2010 and is now back with her owner after a member of the public found her in Fareham and took her to a vet.

Police from the North Hampshire Countrywatch team executed a warrant at Tynefield caravan site, Whiteley Lane, Fareham on the morning of Thursday, March 7 and arrested a 34-year-old man from Fareham on suspicion of theft. He is currently being questioned by police.

Anyone with information about the theft of dogs should contact the Countrywatch team by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Message in a bottle

How does it work?

The Lions, Message In a Bottle scheme is a simple idea designed to encourage people to keep their personal and medical details on a standard form and in a common location - the fridge.

The bottle is kept in the fridge, where the emergency services will be able to find it in the event of being called to your home. We will know you have a bottle by the two labels displayed on the inside of the front door or on the main entrance to your home and the other is for the door of your fridge.

This scheme is free to the user. Whilst it is focused on the more vulnerable people in our community, anyone can fall downstairs, so this scheme can benefit anyone, including you.

As a minimum it will save the Emergency Services valuable time identifying you and your emergency contacts. By telling whether you have special medication or allergies or not, it is a potential lifesaver and provides peace of mind to users and their friends and families.

Bottles are free of charge andcan usually be found in your local Chemist or Doctors Surgeries.

It's Free all costs are paid for by the local Lion's clubs, who are ordinary people doing amazing things.
