Scrapbook Requirements

Your Mission: On May 7th, you will embark on a journey to the nation’s capital to experience America’s rich history and its vibrant future. During your trip, you will be required to take on a new role as historian. All good historians take various notes and pictures when they take a trip.

Your Product:You are required to complete a digital scrapbook detailing numerous items in Washington D.C.

The Process:You will use a Web 2.0 tool called Mixbook to add text and images to create your scrapbook.

  • Once you create your account, you must invite your advisor to view your scrapbook. This is the only way your advisor will be able to grade your scrapbook.

Step Three: Once you return, you will need to upload all your pictures from your DC trip using: your digital camera, smartphone, social media sites, etc. Please let your advisor know if you were not able to take any pictures.

  • The scrapbook must contain the items that follow in this packet and they must be in order for each day.

Deadline:This project is due to your advisory teacher by Thursday, May 22nd.

This project will be worth 100 points for Language Arts, Science and Social Studies!

Late projects will receive partial credit.

3. Science-

•Research the rock- Choose TWO monuments in Washington D.C. and research these monuments/memorials to find out what kind of rock the monuments are made of.

Task: After finding this out, explain how these particular rocks formed. All of this should be contained in a detailed caption (2-3 sentences) for each monument / memorial. Make sure a picture of the monument is taken and inserted with the descriptive sentence below.

4. Vietnam Memorial - Letter

Research individuals at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial at:

Because of this important chapter in our nation’s history, your responsibility is to find a name on the Vietnam website and learn a little bit of information about the person of your choosing (approximately five facts).

Task:After you understand the information, write a fictitious letter to a family member of this person and describe why you found this person to be so important to our nation’s history. This letter should come from and angle of sympathy and praise and must be at least 10-12 sentences. You can also include a picture of the veteran if you find one.

5. Journal Response with Pictures

In an eight-to-ten sentence, typed paragraph, describe one of the sights that you visited today (monument, historical building, museum, etc.) Descriptions should be accurate and very detailed. (Write a narrative piece, detailing your experiences at the Vietnam Memorial.)

  • You can insert some pictures that pertain to your journal entry on this page.
