LEARNING GOAL (PURPOSE): This workshop will cover the recognition, preventive treatment and issues for Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma. Meets KBN requirements for prevention of Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma or Shaken Baby Syndrome.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Define Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (AHT).
2. Review statistics related to AHT.
3. Discuss risk factors for the occurrence of AHT.
4. Review the anatomy of the infant and the physical effects of AHT.
5. Describe the process for making a diagnosis of AHT including the characteristic patterns of injury, clinical presentation and history “red flags” the nurse should identify.
6. Understand the Kentucky law in regard to reporting suspected AHT.
7. Explore the long term effects of AHT on children and families.
8. Identify measures for prevention of AHT and available resources.

Attendance Requirement: You must stay for the entire program to be awarded contact hours and complete a written evaluation of program.

Cancellation Policy:A participant who wishes to cancel registration must notify the Division of Continuing Education and Development office at least three working days prior to the workshop date in order to receive a refund minus a $10 processing fee. After that date a substitute may be sent, but no refund. If an offering is cancelled by EKU, the registration fee will be refunded in full.
