On July 8 we are hosting the inaugural English Minors Open at Walsall CoE. This will be a competition but also there will be a seminar during the event for the players, run by members of the England Programme with guests from the GB Olympic and Paralympic Squad, which will give information about the future pathway for these players as well as tips on training, nutrition and other issues. Then, after the competition is completed, there will be a training session for all minors, again led by England Programme. This should be a very good day. It is a whole-day experience so players are asked to ensure they can be there all day.

Boys Minimon Day

Saturday 5th August 2017

Samurai Judo Club, Zortech Avenue, KidderminsterDY11 7DY

The day will be in two stages, both involving all of the players.

All players must be yellow belt or below, be aged 8-13 years, andmust weigh no more than 50 kg.

Stage 1: Individual Categories

All players will be sorted into categories of 4 or 5 where possible. This will be done by the index method of adding each player’s weight, grade and age and then splitting into groups. Every competitor will receive a medal.

Stage 2: Team Categories

Weight categories will be decided on the day according to entries. We will put all of the players into teams, keeping

weights and ages as fair as possible and keeping clubs together where we can.

Notes:This is an event for inexperienced players, not gong-hunters. Entries from known gong-hunting clubs or clubs with a history of substantially undergraded players will be returned. There will be a large number of junior referees on duty. This event should be seen as an introduction to competitive judo for newer players. Positive coaching is allowed but aggressive coaching and attempted pressuring of referees will not be allowed.

All competitors must be under 14 years old on the day (minimum age 8) &hold current BJA membership or equivalent. Those with non-BJA grades should not hold grades above yellow. Players must wear white judogi. Two star tournament licence. BJA Technical Restrictions (the old U12 rules) will apply in all categories, irrespective of age.

Weigh-In:

All weigh-in times will be posted on the club website and Facebook page the day after the closing date for entries.

Expected finish time: approx. 5.00 pm. All medals will be presented at the end of the day. Please make sure you can stay for the entire day!

Entry

Entry fee: £17 per player, which covers both events; £19 if paid on the day. Cheques payable to: SAMURAI JUDO CLUB.

Bev Price Team Championships

Saturday 14th October 2017 – please note change of date venue and details

British Judo Centre of Excellence, Magdalene Road, WS1 3TA

This is a special event in memory of a fine sporting player - please enter in the true spirit of judo. Each year there is a large entry and every medal is thoroughly earned and competed for in superb spirit and sportsmanship. Please follow that example to keep the atmosphere of this event special.

For those who do not know, Bev Price was a young member of Samurai Judo Club, 2nd dan, a qualified coach and referee, having just got onto the British Senior Squad and being British Kata Champion at the time of her sudden death in November 1997, aged just 23 years old. Highly respected by all who knew her, a fierce but fair competitor who despite being U52 kg quite frequently competed in open weight categories, she would have loved to compete in an event such as this. We hope to see many of her old friends there this year as we commemorate 20 years since she died.
