Post:Artist tutor (Textiles, Maternity Cover)

Salary:£23,400 (20 days holiday entitlement pro rata plus public holidays and 2 weeks at Christmas and 1 week at Easter)

Hours of work:14 hours per week

Background

Venture Arts has been delivering quality art programmes with learning disabled people since 1997. Over the past 10 years we have expanded dramatically and now work with over 100 learning disabled people per week at its centre in Hulme and also at the various outreach projects that are run across Manchester.

Venture Arts studio is based in Hulme, where we deliver a comprehensive visual art programme and cultural opportunities for adults and young people with learning disabilities. We showcase the work of our artists locally, nationally and internationally.

The successful applicant will join Venture Art‘s team on a temporary basis to cover a 9 month maternity leave consisting of: Director, Administrator and Receptionist, Finance Officer (part time), Project Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator, Illustration and Animation Tutor (part time), Photography tutor (part time), Ceramics tutor (2 posts, both part time) and Art as Environment tutor (part time)

There are also around 20 workshop volunteers per week and a voluntary Board of Directors.

Job Summary

Job Outline:

The ideal candidate will bring to the post:

  • A bachelors degree in a relevant visual arts subject (textiles/ embroidery/ .
  • Experience of devising and delivering visual arts workshops.
  • Experience of working with learning disabled people
  • Ability to work independently, use own initiative and be self-motivated.
  • The ability to show an imaginative and enthusiastic approach to developing Venture Arts creative projects.

Key Tasks and Activities:

  • To devise and deliver textiles workshops to learning disabled people, including their interests
  • To work as part of a small team delivering workshops to 5 or 10 learning disabled people.
  • To type project plans and evaluations and to regularly record progression of participants.
  • To be in charge of own workshop budget and order materials required as and when needed
  • To assist in the organisation of exhibitions and events, along with the rest of the team.
  • From time to time; to deliver arts workshops in partnership with other organisations, on an outreach basis
  • To act in a supportive capacity to participants, volunteers and artists involved in Venture Arts.
  • To be a team member; being involved in project planning and attending regular team meetings.
  • To be involved in other activities in Venture Arts work ie. field trips and preparing artwork for exhibitions.
  • Any other reasonable duties required for the effective day to day running of a busy centre

Skills and Experience

Essential requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of textiles skills and artists.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office (Word)
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage a complex workload, to work on own initiative without supervision and as part of a small dedicated team.
Desirable
Knowledge and understanding of the arts and or voluntary sector.
Driving license and use of own car will be advantageous but not essential.
  • Good knowledge of Photoshop, not essential.

Terms and Conditions of Service

Salary / £23,400 pro rata
Hours / 14 hrs per week
Operating hours are 9am – 4pm, Monday – Friday and 9.30am – 12.30pm on a Saturday.
This post will require the candidate to work on a Wednesday and Friday from 9am - 4pm.
Annual leave / 20 days holiday entitlement pro rata plus public holidays and 2 weeks at Christmas and 1 week at Easter
Crimnal Convictions / The successful candidate’s appointment will be subject to a satisfactory DBS Enhanced Disclosure certificate. Where the contents of a Disclosure certificate (and/or similar document) are not satisfactory, Venture Arts reserves the right to withdraw the offer of employment or terminate employment.
Qualifications / Successful candidates will be required to produce original certificates for verification of qualifications.
Eligibility to work
in the UK / Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of their eligibility to work in the U.K.
Probation / There is a probationary period of 3 months.
