VDO ViewLine GPS Speed: one instrument – many possibilities

  • Multifunctional speed indicator with GPS sensor
  • ViewLine component allows variable display in kph, mph or knots
  • Ready for immediate use thanks to Plug & Play design

Rüthi/ Switzerland, 18 November 2014. With the ViewLine GPS Speed, VDO is launching a versatile and multifunctional instrument onto the leisure marine market:the Continental-brand instrument offering the user additional extra features like an integrated GPS module and a digital bearing display. As a new component in the instrumentation range, ViewLine combines a modern design with OEM quality - and can be tailored to individual needs with the customary ease by the user.Features include a speed warning, time format, time zone and speed unit.

Space-saving and user-friendly thanks to 2-in-1 function

GPS Speed offers wide variety in a small space. Thanks to an integrated GPS antenna, it's able to measure speed over the ground. No additional sensors are needed. The device can either be attached on the outside or in the cabin behind the windscreen – without detriment to measurement precision, which is very high even at low speeds. In addition to the speed, the device can display the course “COG”, the distance covered, the cruise time or coordinated universal time on the integrated LC display. An external button lets the user choose which information is displayed. Thanks to its compatibility with NMEA 2000, the indicator can be used as a GPS receiver for other devices.

Variable display and warning function

Using only one analog indicator needle, the GPS Speed shows the speed “SOG” in three selectable units – kilometers per hour, miles per hour or knots.Three intuitively understandable indicator lamps allow the user to see how the speed is being displayed at any time.A fourth indicator lamp has a warning function: it lights up red if a speed previously set by the user is exceeded.

User-friendliness – from installation to application

The impressive user-friendliness of the ViewLine GPS Speed begins with installation.Unlike instruments that use, for example, a pitot tube to determine the speed, the boat doesn't have to be taken out of the water. The ViewLine GPS Speed is fitted where it's wanted and all it needs is a source of power.Once the device has been fastened and connected, it's ready for immediate use.The front ring of the device is obtainable in black, white or chrome – and it's easily changed even after the device is in use.

GPS Speed completes the ViewLine range

With this instrument, VDO is able to offer more flexible installation and design options, as well as space-saving combined devices in three housing sizes, for smaller motor boats and yachts of up to seven meters in length, and also for use with outboard engines.Designed as a plug-and-play solution and suitable for both panel and flush mounting, ViewLine instruments offer maximum flexibility during installation.Regardless of whether or not a front ring is used, the modular concept permits designs of very high variability, and in operation the devices provide maximum precision and easy operability.
