How to Search the ChannelviewHigh School Library Catalog

Log on

Or click the “Destiny” icon on the desktop (if you are in the library)

Click on “Online Catalog” link

* Use the Basic Catalog to find library materials.

  1. At the Basic Search, type in a subject, book title, author name, or series title. Click on the corresponding icon and look through your search results.
  2. Sort your search results by Author, Title, or other choices.
  3. Click on a title to find out more about it. Go to the Copies tab to see if the book is available.
  4. Didn’t find what you want?Refine your Search by changing your search terms or try a different icon. The keyword search usually finds the most books.

To Begin, enter your search term in the Findbox. Then choose a search button…

My Searches – keeps a history of your searches

Keyword – searches titles, authors, subjects, series and notes

Title - looks at all of the titles in the catalog

Author - looks at all of the author and illustrator information

Subject – looks at all of the subjects in the catalog

Series - looks at all of the series information

Your Results appear next, on Search and Browse tabs

The Search tab lists all of the titles that match your search term.

Too many or too few titles found? Click “Refine your search” to try again

The icons show you what each title is: a book, a video, an audiotape, etc.

Click the title or for more information

Page through the list, or click “Show All” to see all of the titles

Click “√Add to this list” to adda particular title to your List.

Note: When searching by Keyword, if your search term doesn’t return any matches, Destiny will try to provide you with a better term with a “Did you mean…” suggestion.

A ►points to the entry that is the closest match to your search term.

To change your search term click Refine your search.

The Browse tab lists all your Titles, Authors, Subjects, or Series – depending on the

type of search you chose. (Keyword searches browse Subjects.)

A number after the entry shows you how many titles the entry has. Click the entry to see them.

Click ◄ or ►to scroll backwardor forward through the list.

Click on See entries to jump to thepreferred search term.

Click on See also entries tojump to related terms.

The Title Details page has additional information about the selected title…

HOW TO ACCESS ARTICLES ONLINE

Log on to the CHS Library website:

Or click on the “CHS Library” icon on the desktop (if you are in the library)

Select:”K-12 Databases” link

Choose “EBSCO Online Resources”

Select the appropriate database that best fits your research, for example

Includes an extensive lists of topics and sources.

Type in your search term in the “Find” box

Basic Search / Advanced Search|Visual Search|Search Other Databases|Title Lists
Find: /

When your list of articles appears, you can click the appropriate icon to:

print the article save the article (flash drive)

email the article cite the article

Note: If you choose the print option, please note the number of pages the article contains and print only the pages that you need.
