A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of the Honorable Lawrence C. "Lonnie" Falk.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Lawrence C. "Lonnie" Falk, mayor of the city of Prospect, Kentucky, departed this earthly life on June 9, 2006, at the age of 63 years, leaving heavy the hearts of his family, friends, and the citizens of the community he so diligently served; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Falk, a native of Mountainbrook, Alabama, was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he received a degree in communications, and where he began an outstanding career in journalism, serving as editor of the Crimson White, the newspaper of the University of Alabama. During his career, he was a reporter for the Birmingham Post-Herald and worked as a journalist for United Press International for 10 years, and served as bureau manager in Birmingham, Raleigh, and Chicago, as well as UPI state editor in Alabama. His journalistic responsibilities allowed him to be a witness to history, as he covered events such as Hurricane Camilla, Neil Armstrong's moon landing, the civil rights movement, and many other moments in our nation's history; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his contributions to the field of journalism, Mayor Falk enjoyed public relations work, serving as the Director of Information Services for the University of Alabama, working as Vice President of Public Relations for the University of Louisville, and providing public relations services for the American Medical Association. He was the founder of Falsoft, the first computer magazine publishing firm in the world, which includes titles such as Rainbow, PCM, and Scorecard, the University of Louisville's sports publication; and

WHEREAS, as mayor of the city of Prospect, and previously as a council member, Mr. Falk was a central figure in protecting the integrity of Prospect. His vision was for maintaining and preserving Prospect as one of the most wonderful places in the world to raise and maintain a family. His vision and deeds will forever be a memorial to his life. Mayor Falk worked diligently on difficult issues, including zoning and annexation questions, historic preservation, and, most recently, the plans for the proposed Ohio River Bridge in eastern Jefferson County. He was president of the Jefferson County League of Cities for two terms and was elected vice president this spring, and was a member of the Horizons committee of the Kentucky League of Cities, as well as a member of the board of directors of Republic Bank; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Falk is survived by his loving wife, Willo; two adoring daughters, Wendy MacGregor of Chicago, Illinois, and Laurie Fields of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, including Benjamin, Connor, and Jeremiah Fields; Madison Barsky; and Sophia MacGregor;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its deep sense of sadness upon the passing of the Honorable Lawrence C. "Lonnie" Falk, and extends to his family, friends, and his community its sincere condolences.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of the late Mayor Lonnie Falk.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit three copies of this Resolution to Mrs. Willo Falk, 5803 Timber Ridge Road, Prospect, Kentucky 40059.
