THE UNIVERSITY /
Comenius University in Bratislava is the oldest university in the Slovak Republic. It was founded on June 27th, 1919 and follows the university tradition of the Academia Istropolitana, which was established in Bratislava by Matthias Corvinus, the Hungarian King, in 1465.
As a higher education institution which aspires to be a member of leading European centers of academic excellence and as an INTERNATIONALLY ORIENTED UNIVERSITY. As a CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE, the University pays special attention to the steady evaluation of its research and teaching in order to ensure that its students are lead by outstanding experts - researchers and lecturers.As the greatest, oldest and outstanding NATIONAL UNIVERSITY of the Slovak Republic, Comenius University especially values its intellectual and universal relationship with the Slovak nation, where it has its roots and at the same time provides the foundation from which it will continue to look to the widest international horizons, enriching both itself and Slovakia.
THE CITY / Is the capital of Slovakia and, with a population of about 460,000, also the country's largest city. Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia on both banks of the Danube River and on the left bank of Morava river. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries. Bratislava is the political, cultural, and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament, and the Slovak Executive. It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural and educational institutions. Many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions also have headquarters there.
The history of the city has been strongly influenced by people of different nations and religions, namely by Austrians, Czechs, Germans, Hungarians, Slovaks, and Jews. The city was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, a part of the larger Habsburg Monarchy territories, from 1536 to 1783 and has been home to many Slovak, Hungarian, and German historical figures.

STUDIES / You are invited to join our family of about 30 000 students studying at 13 faculties and has close contacts with many important European educational institutions based on bilateral agreements. Twelve out of our Faculties are in Bratislava, in the "three capitals triangle" (Vienna 60km and Budapest 200km), the thirteen’s faculty is in the historical city of Martin, under the famous skiing slopes in the north of Slovakia. The Comenius University hosts the highest number of foreign students among all universities in our country. Most of our international students come as participants in LLP Erasmus Program, but we welcome numerous students from non-EU countries and from overseas.We believe that you will find your field of study among the courses offered and that your stay at our university will be a good experience.

CALENDAR / The Academic year consist of two semesters (winter and summer semester) followed by examination period. During the period of examinations, teaching activities do not take place, so students can take sit for the examinations.

INSURANCE / If you are a Non EU student provide yourself with a health insurance policy for the whole period of stay in Slovakia.All students must also have an insurance coverage against accidents during the whole stay in Slovakia. The policy should also cover any accidents that may occur during educational activities.
