Profile:

The Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union (ltd) is a member based ‘umbrella’ organization for over 33 Primary Beef cattle farmers’ Cooperative Societies in Uganda. The Primary Cooperatives and the Union were formed to spearhead the improvement in the beef/meat cattle sector under the framework of the Uganda Meat Export Development Program (UMED).

Main objectives of the UMPCU:

  • To enhance livestock production and the beef economic benefits of farmers through disease prevention and controls.
  • Pasture development and management
  • Improvement of cattle breeds
  • Training/information sharing & dissemination to farmers and stakeholders
  • To enhance livestock production and productivity

Job title: Livestock Resource/business manager

Reports to: TRADE MANAGER

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for the development of the Livestock Resource Centre .

Develop and apply efficient business processes & procedures.

Principal duties:

  1. Develop the Livestock Resource centres business concepts.
  2. Initiate business ideas
  3. Facilitation of the trade processes at the Livestock resource centres.
  4. Provide business and marketing advise to members of the Livestock Resource centre
  5. Mobilise and recruit new members.
  6. Data Collection for the uodate of the organization database
  7. Coordinate the implementation of the UMPCU activities at the Livestock Reosurce centres

Qualifications and Experiences:

  1. Should have a degree in Business administration OR Agri-Business OR Veterinary Medicine
  2. Must have at least 4 years work experience with extensive experience in project work.
  3. Good marketing skills
  4. Good understanding of group dynamics
  5. Must be creative, analytical & logical and should be able to build relationships with different stakeholders (nationally & internationally),departments and union members; lead and manage teams; do presentations effectively to small and large groups and also make sound and timely decisions.
  6. Knowledge of Office Word, Office Excel, PowerPoint, Office Publisher and email software applications is required.
