PROCLAMATION

HONORING DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF CARMEN IANTOSCA

FOR HIS TENUREIN THE SOUTH ORANGE FIRE DEPARTMENT

1981-2016

WHEREAS,Deputy Fire ChiefCarmen Iantosca has dutifully served the South Orange Fire Department for thirty fiveyears from 1981 through 2016; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Fire Chief Iantosca began his career in the South Orange FireDepartment as a Fire Fighterin 1981; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Fire Chief Iantosca was promoted to Fire Lieutenant in September, 1993, Fire Captain in September,1996 and Deputy Fire Chief in March 2012; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Fire Chief Iantosca served as Past Vice-President for the Firemen’s Mutual Benevolent Association Local # 40and Past Vice-President for the Superior Officers Association Local # 240; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Fire ChiefIantosca has received the following Act of BraveryCommendations:

  1. July 11, 1983: Thwarting of Mugging of Senior Citizen;
  2. May, 22, 1992: Rescue of Unconscious Victim from Structure Fire;
  3. February 28, 2000: Seton Hall University Dormitory Fire

WHEREAS,Deputy Chief Iantosca received a Gold Medal Award in April, 1992; in particular, the Saint Barnabas Hospital Valor Award for the Rescue of Unconscious Victim from Structure Fire; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Iantosca’s service continued a long family tradition of dedicated service to South Orange, with the following family members having proudly served the Village of South Orange with dedication and distinction:

  1. Great grandfather, Carmen Iantosca, South Orange Water Department, 1906–1921
  2. Grandfather, Michael Iantosca, Asst. Superintendent, Orange Water Department, 1914–1959
  3. Father, Carmen Iantosca, Asst. Superintendent, South Orange Water Department, 1956-1989
  4. Carmen Iantosca, Deputy Fire Chief, South Orange Fire Department, 1981-2016; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Iantosca is the fourth generationto serve the South Orange community, , saving lives, protecting property and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of one of our most precious resources, clean water by this long time South Orange family, encompassing a total of 128 years combined service.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Village President of the Townshipof South Orange Village, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, and the entire Village of South Orange, that the Villagehereby expresses itssincerestappreciation to Deputy Chief Iantosca, a valued Superior Officer of the South Orange Fire Department, having served his hometown and community in the finest tradition of fire service, personifying the traits of courage, selflessness, loyalty, dedication, conviction, determination and perseverance,wishing him continued success and good health in the future.
