Job purpose

To assist in the planning and execution of a College & Career Center focused program and to provide the following services to teen participants:

  • Assist in improving employability of teen members
  • Assist in providing career counseling, job readiness, and job placement services
  • Provide post-secondary education readiness and counseling services
  • Assist in providing activities and guidance for leadership and presentation skills
  • Serve as college and career “mentor” to Club youth, providing individual and small group support to prepare for the future
  • Assist in establishing, expanding, and/or retaining relationships with local corporate and community partners that will contribute to the program
  • Work closely with Club and organizational leadership to ensure the success of the program

Duties and responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with all Club teens
  • Facilitate small-group programming and activities with all participants
  • Provide individual guidance to teen members about education and career pathways, resume and cover letter writing, mock interviews, personal branding, presentation skills, leadership skills, and overall job readiness
  • Plan and implement opportunities for a variety of guest speakers to attend the Club and share their education and pathway experiences
  • Plan and implement off-site experiences for participants in a variety of settings (workplace shadows, college & trade school tours, military recruitment sites, etc.)

Qualifications

A high school diploma is required. A college degree withrelevant coursework is a plus. A minimum of 1 year of experience in youth development, specifically working with teens is required. Group facilitation and/or training experience is a plus.Excellent communication skills are also required. Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office products.

Qualifications continued

Candidates should have flexibility, patience, tolerance, and a willingness to learn new related skills. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is a plus. PSL is also a plus.

Working conditions

This position is grant driven and all program expectations must be met. Work will be done at Club sites and an off-site facility (Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford.) 80% of the role is comprised of facilitation of the program, interacting with membersand coordinating with community partners. Approximately 20% is comprised of administrative tasks, planning and preparation. Special events and activities may involve a change in schedule and weekend hours.

Physical requirements

This position requires prolonged standing, some bending, twisting, reaching and computer work.

Direct reports

The Assistant Program Coordinator may oversee volunteers and community partners within the program.
