THE WESTMEAD ASSOCIATION

HOSPITAL WEEK 2017 RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM

FRIDAY, 18TH AUGUST, 2017

28th March, 2017

Dear Colleague,

In 2017 the Westmead Association will once again host its annual Research Symposium during Hospital Week. This will be held on Friday, 18thAugust in the Education Block.

The Symposium features presentations from local researchers and is an excellent opportunity to showcase the research and develop collaborations on the Westmead Campus. This will be an opportunity for all researchers from each of the institutions within the Westmead Research Hub to participate and interact on this day. Please encourage your colleagues to attend the plenary sessions, and to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations. The full programme will be circulated to you soon.

Please be aware of the following points when submitting abstracts:

  • This is an opportunity to showcase your original research to the general hospital community. It is imperative that it should be easily understood by all members of the Westmead family.
  • Please present your abstract in lay format.
  • Excessive use of technical jargon is to be avoided.
  • You will be judged on your ability to make your research understandable to a general audience and to indicate how it aids current scientific /medical knowledge.
  • You can choose to present orally or at the poster session.

There will be two prizes of $1,000 for the best researchpresented in the oral session (one clinical research and one basic science) and there will also be four prizes of $500.00 for the top four research poster (two clinical research and two basic science) presentations. Places in the oral session will be offered to the eight best abstracts submitted.

Research that has been presented elsewhere is eligible for submission to these sessions. Winners will be announced after completion of judging at the end of the Research Symposium.

Details for submission of abstracts are enclosed. Abstracts must be supplied in both hard copy and emailedto . If you require any further information please contact Georgette Hanna.

We look forward very much to seeing you there.

Yours sincerely,
