Salary range:£9227.40 per year

Hours:21 hours per week

Location: WSDCS Glasgow Office Base

Contract:Initially for 1 year.Probation Period of 3 months.

Main purpose of post

To support the work of WSDCS including supporting the work of the Family Support Officer by preparing and delivering support to families across WSDCS geographical area. To build an understanding of legislation, policy and local implementation to support families to access the right support for their deaf child/ren. To work in a family centred way with deaf children, young people and their families. To support the administration of WSDCS by supporting the development of funding applications and the general administrative function within the office.

To work with the Family Support Officer to deliver high quality children and families support work, working with deaf children and their families within the area to achieve the best start in life.

The support work will:

  • Align with WSDCS vision and strategy for family support
  • Be delivered in a child and family centred way
  • Will be outcomes focused, needs-led and well planned
  • Will be of high quality
  • Enable children, young people and their families to know their rights, exercise them and develop independence in securing them

Key tasks

  1. To abide by and promote WSDCSPolicy of Informed Choice, its Vision and Values and EqualOpportunities Statement.
  1. To take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.
  1. To conduct the range of tasks associated with supporting families including:
  • Supporting families and young people to understand deafness
  • Identifying what support a family needs and supporting the preparing of a support plan to reflect this
  • Supporting children and families to become confident at articulating what they need independently
  • Preparing info for meetings, hearings, challenges
  • Providing informal advocacy
  • Keeping records of support provided
  1. To develop and maintain strong relationships with professionals involved in supporting families of deaf children and develop and maintain links with local groups including NDCS local groups. This will be done in partnership with the Family Support Officer.
  1. Take responsibility for own professional development
  1. To support the delivery of supports which are centred on deaf children and young people, using effective assessment and support planning which includes supporting parents, carers and professionals to understand and consider the aspirations of children.

  1. To support the administration of WSDCS including supporting the development of funding bids under the direction of the Administration Officer.
  1. Undertake such other tasks as may reasonably be required.

This list of tasks is not exhaustive and will be reviewed from time to time in discussion with the post holder.

Resource Worker

Essential skills and experience

  1. Experience of working directly with Children and Young People, and personal experience of doing the same.
  1. Good understanding of child development; empathy; listening skills and the ability to translate this into effective, child centred work.
  1. Good organisational and interpersonal skills.
  1. Experience of developing funding applications, or willingness to learn
  1. Good level of written English.
  1. Ability to work in partnership with others to achieve the best outcomes for children, young people and families.
  1. Ability to recognise own limitations by identifying gaps in skills and willingness to undertake additional training.
  1. Proven experience of managing own work and time in a continually changing environment.
  1. Strong awareness of deafness and its impact on children and families within a diverse range of communities and settings.
  1. Good computer skills including experience of using Microsoft Windows and associated applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  1. BSL or willingness to learn.
  1. Holder of a current, clean driving licence. (Preferred)
  1. Willingness to travel to events, work some evenings and the occasional day at the weekend if there is a specific event or trip planned.
