Language Arts
We continue to make progress in our Fundationswork. Students have been studying base (or root) words and suffixes. We know a suffix comes at the end of the word and can change the tense or meaning of that word. Students should be able to successfully add –s, -es, -ing, -ed, -ful, -less, -er, -est,
-ness, and –ment. In November, we will move onto Unit 3. In Reading, we are just wrapping up our first unit of study. We will take a benchmark assessment mid-November and your student’s grade will be sent home for your to review, sign, and return. Students are aware of their goals and work to strengthen comprehension and fluency. In small group, we reinforce these skills. InGrammar we are exploring common and proper nouns, and the subjects and predicates within a sentence. OurWriting has a continued focus on narratives. We are looking at small moments.
Math
We continued our study ofNumber and Operations in Base Ten through addition and subtraction. It is so important that third graders have a firm command of their facts. Accuracy and fluency are key and will help when we begin to multiply and divide. Please support at home through math fact practice. There are tons of free on-line resources. If you would like flash cards, we have a few sets in school and you are more than welcome to borrow~ just ask! In November, we will begin to multiplication concepts.

Science/Social Studies
Throughout the month of October we focused on the presidential election in Social Studies. We met the candidates and learned a little about each. We talked about the history of voting in America and briefly about the states. We also explored the White House and Washington DC- which was perfect for Mrs. Libro’s trip to the capital! We learned about the different jobs of a president and his/her role in our government. We will continue to discuss the election into the beginning of November, then move on to some Science.
Technology
We have been exploring Google Classroom both in room 202 and in the computer lab. As we get further into the school year, students will begin to complete and turn in more and more assignments using their iPads and computers throughout the school. You can check out Google Classroom at home- students know their log-ins!
We also have created, built, and printed 3-D rockets with Mr. Kohl. Each of us is working on a power point presentation to compliment our rockets! Pretty neat, don’t you think?!
