ARTICLE I, NAME

Section 1. The name of this organization shall be The Digital Fabrication Club.

ARTICLE II, PURPOSE

Section 1. The purpose of The Digital Fabrication Club will be to enhance the education and practice of digital design and implementation. The Digital Fabrication Club will work to provide, cultivate, and grow the skills of designers to better the world of digital fabrication both on campus and in the professional environment after graduation. The Digital Fabrication Club will increase students’ access to various tools that are currently unavailable or price-restrictive.

ARTICLE III, STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE

The Digital Fabrication Club abides by and supports established Iowa State University policies, State and Federal Laws and follows local ordinances and regulations. The Digital Fabrication Club agrees to annually complete President’s Training, Treasurer’s Training and Adviser Training.

ARTICLE IV, NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

Iowa State University and The Digital Fabrication Club do not discriminate on the basis of genetic information, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, race, ethnicity, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or status as a U.S Veteran.

ARTICLE V, MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Membership shall be open to all registered students in good standing at Iowa State University.

Section 2. Active member status within The Digital Fabrication Club is contingent upon the requirements as follows:

  1. Payment of dues are to be completed within the first month of school starting each semester.
  2. Members must be at a minimum of three meetings a semester to be considered an active member.

ARTICLE VI, RISK MANAGEMENT

Section 1. The Digital Fabrication Club has a risk management officer who is responsible to do the following duties for The Digital Fabrication Club.

  1. Minimizing potential risks for club activities.
  2. Recommending risk management policies or procedures to The Digital Fabrication Club.
  3. Submitting documentation to ISU’s Risk Management Office.
  4. Ensure that Iowa State University policies are followed at all of the organization’s events.
  5. Ensure that proper waivers and background checks are on file with Risk Management for events if applicable.

ARTICLE VII, OFFICERS

Section 1. Executive Council

  1. The Executive Council will consist of the following:
  1. President
  2. Treasurer
  3. Vice President of Fundraising
  4. Vice President of Digital Design
  5. Vice President of Materials
  6. Vice President of Mechanics
  7. Vice President of Public Relations
  8. Vice President of Risk Management
  1. The Executive Council will hold at least two executive meetings every month to discuss plans for the club and how it is being run. This meeting is open to everyone but mandatory for the Executive Council.
  2. The Executive Council will be in charge of running the club meetings and events. Members at large are also encouraged to help with planning and coordinating meetings and events.
  3. There will be an Executive Council transition meeting held between the outgoing and incoming position holder at the end of each term.
  4. The newly elected Executive Council will sit in on at least one of the old Executive Council meeting before taking office.

Section 2. Elected Positions

  1. President
  1. The President’s primary responsibility is the chief executive officer of the club.
  2. The President will preside over club meetings.
  3. The President shall stay in close contact with the adviser and the College of Design.
  4. The President is responsible for understanding the budget and working with the treasurer to create a budget for the year.
  5. In the case of an elected officer not performing their duties, the President is responsible for requesting the dismissal of that member from their position.
  6. The President is in charge of facilitating annual officer training and transition meetings within 14 days of the end of the election.
  1. Treasurer
  1. The Treasurer shall be responsible for preparing a yearly budget.
  2. The Treasurer shall be the main contact for Campus Organization Accounting.
  3. The Treasurer shall ensure that all members are up to date in payments.
  4. The Treasurer shall work with each executive officer to determine and educate on the budget.
  5. The Treasurer shall stay in close contact with the adviser about the fiscal status of the club.
  1. Vice President of Fundraising
  1. The Vice President of Fundraising is responsible for setting up and overseeing any fundraising activities undertaken by the club.
  2. The Vice President of Fundraising shall work with the treasurer to ensure proper allocation of the funds raised.
  1. Vice President of Digital Design
  1. The Vice President of Digital Design is in charge of working with the adviser to provide digital training to the members of the club.
  2. The Vice President of Digital Design is in charge of helping to introduce new digital design programs to the club.
  3. The Vice President of Digital Design is in charge of checking over digital models for errors before sending to fabrication.
  1. Vice President of Materials
  1. The Vice President of Materials is in charge of organizing and keeping stock of all materials needed and used by the club.
  2. The Vice President of Materials is in charge of understanding the material properties of what we use for fabrication.
  3. The Vice President of Materials is responsible for communicating the needs of new materials to be purchased with the Treasurer and the adviser.
  1. Vice President of Mechanics
  1. The Vice President of Mechanics is in charge of understanding the mechanics of the fabrication machines which may include but is not limited to the CNC Router, the 3D Printer, and Laser Cutters.
  2. The Vice President of Mechanics is in charge of operating the 3D printer and training people on how to use it.
  3. The Vice President of Mechanics is responsible for communicating digital fabrication tactics and methods with the adviser.
  1. Vice President of Public Relations
  1. The Vice President of Public Relations shall be responsible for handling any public relation opportunities.
  2. The Vice President of Public Relations shall be responsible for developing public relation strategies and campaigns for the club and its events.
  3. The Vice President of Public Relations shall maintain the clubs social media pages which may include but is not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  4. The Vice President of Public Relations shall be responsible for taking and compiling all pictures of club activities and projects.
  5. The Vice President of Public Relations shall compile a brochure that is up to date with recent projects and events to hand out to prospective members.
  1. Vice President of Risk Management
  1. The Vice President of Risk Management is responsible for registering all events that are necessary through the university.
  2. The Vice President of Risk Management shall work with the President and Adviser to create a training and safety program for digital fabrication machines.
  3. The Vice President of Risk Management shall keep an accurate record of who is able to use the digital fabrication machines and tools.
  4. The Vice President of Risk Management shall create a risk management policy and present it to members of the club at the beginning of every semester.

Section 3. Qualifications for Officers

  1. All elected officers will have the status of Active membership.
  2. To be elected to any office, a member must be a full time student which counts as 11.5 credits or more for the semester.
  3. To be elected to any office, a member must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  4. To be elected President, a member must have at least 45 semester hours of credit at an institution of higher learning. 30 of the semester hours must be from Iowa State University.
  5. All other officers and members of standing committees of the chapter must meet the minimum scholastic requirements of the University.

Section 4. Elections

  1. Elected officers will serve for one calendar year beginning with their installation to office.
  2. Installation of officers will be held the 1st meeting of November.
  3. Election of officers will be held two (2) meetings prior to the installation of officers.
  4. At the meeting of an election, nominations may be made from the floor.
  5. Any member that meets the requirements for the position may nominate himself.
  6. Special elections may be called by a simple majority vote of the Active members.
  7. After an elected office has been vacated, a special election will be called to fill this vacancy.
  8. One member may not hold two Executive positions concurrently.

Section 5. Dismissal

  1. An elected officer may be impeached by a two-thirds (2/3) roll call vote of the active members at any meeting.
  2. Dismissal proceedings will be voted upon at the next club meeting following impeachment.
  3. Dismissal will be concluded by a two-thirds (2/3) roll call vote of the active members.

ARTICLE VIII, ADVISER

Section 1. Adviser Duties

  1. The adviser must oversee events put on by the club and provide mentoring, direction, and support in there planning.
  2. The adviser must communicate Iowa State and College of Design policies and procedures to the club.
  3. The adviser must assist in the risk management practices of the club.

Section 2. Selection of Adviser

  1. An adviser will be selected by an officer and the cabinet will vote for or against them. The vote will be a majority vote by hand.

Section 3. Term of Service

  1. The adviser will be bound to a two year term of advising for the club.

Section 4. Replacement of Adviser

  1. An adviser will be replaced if the current one is absent in performing their duties.
  2. The replacement process will follow the same practice detailed in Article VIII, Section 2 which discusses selecting an adviser.

ARTICLE IX, FINANCES

Section 1. Finances

  1. Dues shall not exceed more than one hundred dollars ($100) a semester.
  2. All members are require to pay their dues at the beginning of each semester within one month of classes starting. This will be done by cash or check and is required to be given to the Treasurer during the week so that they can deposit the payments in a timely manner.
  3. Additional charges may be given out dependent on use of materials and funding by the club.
  4. All active members will pay the same dues whether they hold an officer position or not.
  5. All monies belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization at the Campus Organizations Accounting Office and/or approved institution/office (must receive authorization via Campus Organizations Accounting Office). All funds must be deposited within 48 hours after collection. The Adviser to this organization must approve and sign each expenditure before payment.
  6. If the club is dissolved the funds in the account will go back to the College of Design to help bring digital media and fabrication tools to all students.

ARTICLE X, AMENDMENTS

Section 1. Any change in the constitution of The Digital Fabrication Club will be done by a two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote of the active members.

Section 2. Any proposed change in this constitution will be presented in written form to the club at meeting and read one week before a vote may be taken on it. These changes must also be sent out via email to all members one week before voting.

Section 3. A copy of any constitution amendment shall be sent to the adviser for review. The amendment shall be considered enacted unless otherwise protested by the adviser.

ARTICLE XI, OVERRULING CONSTITUTION

Section 1. This constitution may be overruled at any time by a three-fourths (3/4) affirmative vote by the active membership at a meeting if quorum is held.

Section 2. In order to have quorum for a vote two-thirds (2/3) of the total active membership must be present.
